Well what do we have here? A film titled Saathiya. Sounds interesting. Doesn’t it? The other day my husband brought home a cassette from the library. It is a good movie, but I wasn’t impressed with the story. It kind of didn’t make sense to me. But weird things do happen in real life.

Saathiya is the story of Aditya Sehgal and Suhani Sharma. It’s about their romance and the unfortunate changes in their relationship after marriage.

It is a remake of Mani Ratnam's Tamil hit ''AleyPayuthey''. Mani Ratnam’s assistant Shaad Ali directed the movie. A.R Rahman has given great music and Gulzar wrote the https://lyrics.

The main stars are Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee who of course play the role of Aditya and Suhani.

Hindi movies are very famous to show the leading pair at exotic locations, wearing designer clothes, driving flashy cars and living in palatial homes. This normally happens when they have just fallen in love. And lo behold, the magic wand has touched everything and transformed it into gold.

Saathiya is a love story with a difference. It is a movie about real people leading normal lives. Aditya goes around on a motorcycle and Suhani is a medical student commuting by the local trains. Their families live in ordinary homes and not in make believe palaces.

Aditya falls in love with Suhani. Of course this affair begins as an infatuation and then matures into a blossoming love. Weird misunderstandings between their parents compel the young lovers to elope. What I really liked in this movie is the part of the story where the Aditya – Suhani relationship is strained due to growing marital problems. This has been depicted realistically in the movie. The marital pressure turns into a tragedy, which helps the pair discover their deep love for each other.

Both the actors have given good performances. We also have Tanuja, playing mother while Sandhya Mridul acts as Suhani’s elder sister. And guess what? At the end we have a surprise package, where Shahrukh Khan makes an appearance. Well he seems to be the tiny cherry on your icing cake!!!
