I wanted to see this movie- since I had already fallen in love with the songs(Kudos to A.R. Rehman!)- they have their own magic which you start feeling slowly. They breathe romance and intimacy.Check out Udi-Udi sung so well by Adnan Sami!
Both Rani Mukherjee and Vivek Obeori ooze freshness and show a different kind of chemistry on the screen and their presence can be felt. Since they have no larger than life image (unlike other stars!)one can relate to the chracters they potrayed. The plot might be a cliched one yet the treatment of the same by Shaad Ali is different-everything done by the principal characters look convincing- their relationship and anything and everything which happenns around and about them. This is what the movie offers you- Gulzar's dialogues and witty one-liners which run between Adi and Suhani. There is a bond between the viewer and the artists- a feeling of warmth between the two.
Tanuja as a typical middle class mother comes across quite strongly and so the other artists too. There is nothing which looks superflous or movie like, it looks like a part of anyone's life.
Second half shows the turbulations in their marital life- which starts affecting their near perfect home. The disbelief, the pain, their irritation, and the anger is so real. But there was no need to add Sharukh Khan and Tabu to the end- it just looked like a drag.It appereared since there was nothing to hold on till the end, the director had to add some sort of gimmicks in the form of these too.I feel the stars could have ended the movie farely well without these!
But, it is worth a watch- for Rani Mukherjee and Vivek Oberoi performances, the songs picturisation, the music and good direction. When Bollywood has been doling out god-knows-what-kind-of movies Saathiya comes as a breath of fresh air!
