Saathiya - is a movie all about a typical Mumbaiya teenager from a well to do family (Vivek Oberoi), who deeply falls in love with a girl (Rani Mukherji) who comes from a middle class family. Due to the difference in the status of the two families, the parents of the two do not agree upon the marriage, but the depth of the love of the two forces them to marry against the will of their parents i.e. the two decide to marry secretely in absence of their parents and tell them after the proper time comes to do so.
Thus, the story of the movie is tolerable, but, the picturisation of the movie is not upto the mark. The reason being that half of the movie is shot on the railway platforms of Mumbai with all those rush of the local trains, & having background sounds of the local trains. The movie shows a clear absence of a proper set and locations which refresh the minds of the viewers. Director of the movie is Shaad Ali who has made a good attempt in this first film of his. Shaad Ali was an assistant to Manirathnam.
Music of the movie is given by A.R. Rehman. Needless to mention, it is excellent.
The movie goes into enhance mode with the entry of Shahrukh Khan & Tabu. Both of them come to the viewers as a surprise package. However, they do not have a long role in the movie, but only a guest appearence. Shahrukh Khan has performed too good, the role of a responsible husband to Tabu.
With all those publicity and the name of a producer like Yash Chopra of the film, the movie certainly falls short from its expectations by the viewers.
However, in my view, the movie should be watched atleast once.
