Romeo Akbar Walter Review:

In the line of RAW and WAR movies, one more movie is released today. Romeo Akbar Walter. Here is my review of it after watching it on the first day, first show. I like espionage movies. As per my opinion film is inspired by a real raw agent!

The film has a complex story like James Bond movies:

First I make it clear that the story is very complex with lots of twists. You should pay attention to every moment and every happening in the movie otherwise you will miss the flow of the story and will fail to understand what happens next. Still, story writer and director has done great efforts to put the story intelligently on screen. Here, I am trying to put the complex story in simple words without telling the climax or without revealing suspense elements so that it will be easy to understand it more clearly.

The plot goes like this(tried to put in simple words):

Story happens in the month of September to December in 1971.

When Bangladesh(The then East Pakistan) was on the verge of getting its freedom from Pakistan; Research and Analysis Wing(RAW) chief Srikanth Rai(Jackie Shroff) assigns an ex-army person's son Rehmatullah Ali(Romeo) a role of the spy in PoK after passing a "final" test.(But I wonder when were the earlier tests were taken?). Romeo is played by John Abraham who works as a cashier in a bank. His only condition is his mother to be taken care of at all cost.(Which is something similar we have seen in URI also).

Few RAW agents are already living in PoK as a RAW network(head of which is called Joker but at the end only we get the real meaning of Joker) which will help Romeo in his tasks. Surprisingly, one of them is a Pakistani also.

With proper fake documents, he is sent as a Kashmiri Pakistani to PoK with new name Akbar. His language of communication with RAW is Hindi but not direct. The words are twisted and Akbar needs to decipher real meaning from it or if not, then do as per his own instincts. Also when they are not communicating verbally, how do they manage? That's something you have to watch only in the movie.

So, when Romeo(Akbar) discovers that Pakistan is planning air bombings on East Pakistan's Liyaqatabad where Indian Army is also present in large numbers(to support freedom movement of East Pakistan); he sends a message to RAW. Then RAW chief Shrikant plans a smart movement to stop these bombings but someone from India leaks that information and Pak prepone the dates. And that person(who leaked the info) is also arrested in India.

While planning to work on this new challenge, Akbar is unmasked and Pak finds that he is RAW agent. Also, He becomes victim of Pakistan's internal politics and power play(which shows clear links of Pak army with ISI) and gets caught. In parallel, Shradha Sharma(Mouni Roy) is sent to Pak in Indian Embassy.

What happens next? I won't tell.

Why Romeo who is now Akbar becomes Walter?

Does he come back to India?

Does Pak succeed in air bombings?

You need to watch the movie for that.

Performances: All performances are good. John doesn't have any fight scene in this movie.

Music: Background score is good but songs are forgettable.

Screenplay: Very good.

Visuals: The 1971 era has become alive on screen and the team has taken lots of efforts for it. Making a backdated/historical movie should be carefully handled otherwise it becomes a disaster like Vivek Oberoi's Kisna, Salman's Veer etc.

Overall rating from me: 3.5/5
