Review of RockStar

I got to watch this movie late, but it’s one of the best romantic movies in a long, long time. Ali’s direction is absolutely in line with what he wants the audience to believe, and the tension, the trauma that the actors go through is palpable. So, this is what it takes to be a rockstar. Right in front of your eyes, a prudish, idiotic simpleton is transformed by the blows of nature into a world known entity, all on the basis of love, of lost love, and all that goes with it.

The Indian picture painted here of a lost lover in the first half of the movie is very stark. I wouldn't throw my brother or cousin out of my house for an affair. I wish Indians could just chill and realize that for creative pursuits like singing, acting, movies, etc, you need to experience love, longing, and grow up with it.

All credit goes out to Nargis who plays the freedom lover cum transformer of her lover with style and ease. The chemistry between the two stars is great. No matter how much you compare AB junior and now Ranveer with their colossal dads, it’s a fact that they’re doing the best cinema that they can. Ranveer comes out with a winner every time. From Rocket Singh, to Wake Up Sid, and now RockStar. I love this movie’s sensitive portrayal of true love.

Also, the film breaks all traditional barriers with an extra marital theme. The songs, lyrics and pathos in the character are brought out by the bitter but transforming experiences he goes through, bringing out the best in him. So, sufficient it so say, that whatever happens is for the benefit of the individual, and god knows how to bring about the evolution of a human being like only he does. The songs in the movie have an authentic, ethnic touch, bringing out the spirit of the struggle of the main character. Overnight, you want to believe in the emotion of love all over again, so carried away do you get by two young, fresh lovers and their entire belonging to each other.

Ali’s direction is a masterpiece. He brings alive the romance of Delhi, painting a beautiful picture of a naughty girl and her aspirations for freedom. And Ranveer loses all to gain love and life. Nice! The only point noteworthy is that while the girl is about to lose her life without the boy, the boy is at risk of losing only a home, career, wealth and security. The most touching zenith in the movie is the line in the song where in, fed up of his longing and then separation, the character sings, ‘Free me from myself.’ And of course, ‘Sadda Haq aithe rakh.’ Encore, encore! Nice work Imtiaz Ali, waiting for more genius.
