Road Trip is yet another “rite of passage” movie that catalogues the misadventures of a group of American college students. The plot is definitely a bit thin but its comic elements more than make up for that thinness. It all revolves round one particular student who has a long distance relationship with a girl he has grown up with. As a result of one nights aberration with another girl his entire world is tipped upside down which some might say serves him right. His friends quickly rally round and so the journey begins. The journey is presented to the viewer in a semi-narrative style which helps the story being told in an episodic manner (something I personally enjoy).
There are many genuinely funny scenes throughout this film, one of my favourites has to be the situation that one of Josh’s (the main character) friends ends up in at the sperm donor depository. A lot of the humour is aimed at the male viewer but there are scenes which will appeal to both sexes. After several hiccups the group eventually arrive at their destination to a less than blazing welcome. The ending is a bit too pat for my liking but it did not spoil my enjoyment. If you want a funny film to while away a couple of hours then this is for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film and would heartily recommend it.
