Basically Rethis about jia, a young middle class daughter in law, who stuggles to be accepted into a wretched society after being raped. The story is based upon jia and her struggle to keep the honour of her in laws.
She is married to shekhar a journalist, will do anything to get justice for jia, then their is gyan pandey the father-in-law, very close to jia, and loves her like a daughter, then their is rukmani mother in law, very much the same.
Then we have samar, shekhar's older brother, businessman, very honest, always helping out the family, and their is his wife devyani who is kind of bonkers but sweet, and very much affectionate towards jia, and then we have her mother staying with her (the villain) always trying to make life difficult for jia, reminding her of her misfortunate events.
Jia begins to recover from the incident, but that is not the end for her bad times. Just like when the women is always blamed in society if anything goes wrong, fingers are being pointed towards her due to her pregnancy, everybody is questioning,is the child shekhar's or was it the result of the rape. Not just society but certain family members are asking that question, even shekhar. The lack of faith from her family members and husband leaves her distraught.
Thats not her only problem, when netra enters (actress)who becomes totally obsessed with shekhar after a passionate night with him.but soon after shekhar realises his mistake, and vows to make things right with jia and tells netra he no longer wants to see her, but liitle does he know what a monster he has made of netra.
Netra's obsession leads to more problems for pandey family, after shekhar and netra's secret is finally out, distraught jia stillsticks by her husband no matter what, but netra is still not out of their lives. Meanwhile a conspiracy is being made against pandey family by a mysterious arch rival of the pandey family.
It all starts after a dead body found in shekhars factory, shekhar is arrested as it is assumed the dead body is netra's, everybody thinks he murdered her so she would leave him in peace with jia. But shekhar is innocent,but not only that netra is still alive, it turns out that the body was somebody elses it would have been netra if she had not escaped the clutches of some unknown gundas.
Netra continues to run from them, but she faints, and is held hostage by a fan of hers who is a total psycho. She can't escape from him. Meanwhile the pandey family are trying their best to free shekhar, but jia unlike others is adamant that netra is alive even though allevidence is against shekhar
, her obstinacy leads to success as she finds netra, but in order to free her from the psycho, she kills him in self defence.
The police reach their with samar, jia is arrested, shekhar is freed as netra is alive but everybody is confident that netra will give the statement and free jia. But here's the twist.
If she's gonna do that, she will but on one condition, that is to marry shekhar. She tells shekhar only, but shekhar has no choice he agrees, but does not tell anybody else, not even jia. They then marry secretly, netra as she promised gives the right statement and jia is then released, pandey family believe happy days are back for their family, but little do they know the shock they are about to recieve.
Netra comes over to the house to tell the pandeys about her marriage with shekhar, everybody is shocked, their is more chaos, but they don't know that shekhar did this to save jia, but to keep jia safe from harm he still cant tell them why he did it, and lies to jia in front of her face that he doesnt lov her anymore but loves netra, which is why he married her. GOD WHAT NEXT??!!!!
GUESS-netra is PREGNANT, and not only that the pandey business is being ruined after their factories are being bombed by an unkwown arch rival of the family. Samer's business, which is family business is going down the hill.
And now netra has moved in into her in-laws house who clearly hate her for what she has done to the family, and it was none other than jia bringing her their. HUHHHHH!WHY DID SHE DO THAT!!! I'm still not sure, I definitley missed something their. Anyway after moving in due to jia's goodness, netra still has no sympathy for her and now is looking for ways to remove jia out of shekhar's life forever. Will she be successful??Whoknows???
Overall the show is great, perfect acting by all.
P.s could someone answer me this question when they comment on this review. The question is that in indian law when you are already married to a woman, but get married a second time, will the second marriage be valid, as that marriage is illegal as far as I know, and in order for it to be valid don't you need to divorce your first wife.
From the past programmes I have seen, second marriages are not valid until you get a divorce from your first wife, or she dies. If that is true then what the hell is going on reth, have the directors gone mad or somethin.
Please people answer my above question if you have any knowledege of the indian legal system, because this is driving me insane!!
