Recently I found an unique portal redBus.in**, which caters to the domestic bus traveller. This portal integrates private bus operators, primarily long distance operators and travellers.
The tickets are for sale till 12 hours before the travel date. One can book tickets using either a Debit/Credit card or thru netbanking. Many of the leading private players have tied up with redBus.in - to name a few Sabharwal Tourist, Sharma Transports, Kesineni Travels etc.
The site's ease of navigation/simplicity needs a loud applause. No messy advertisements popping up.
You don't need to have a login here. You just select the From & To location, the date of journey and the bus type and search of the buses - and you have a wide array of options to select.
The seat layout is displayed wherein you can have your choice. I think this is an unique feature not available in any other mode be it railways/airliners.
Other options available are Print a ticket, Check Fare, Cancellation. A copy of the ticket gets mailed to you.
They have a home deliver feature which at present is limited to Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai & Pune at a nominal rate of Rs. 20/-.
Kudos to the founders Phanindra Sama, Sudhakar Paspunuri and Charan Padmaraju for making travel so simple. (By the way I have not booked a ticket till date, but heard much about this from my colleagues who are the move)
