Ready …Before watching it I updated my facebook status as ”Looking forward this Sat afternoon to some senseless entertainment, in the explosive Salman style” And I was 100% correct after watching the 2.5 hr long roller coaster of all emotions rolled into a bundle of entertainment.

The Story-The movie is about a large family of Salman that lives and loves in the hum saath saath hain style. Salman is the proverbial black sheep who only likes to “body build” and loaf around but is a darling at heart, helping his friends elope to get married to their sweethearts(Zarine Khan is a sp appearance rocks the character dheela song).

In his life and in his noisy family Asin makes a noisy, garrulous appearance. She poses as the girl who’s come down from the States to get married to Salman and within a day she endears herself to the family. A medley of tiffs between the 2 attractive leads, some genuine comedy ensues and they discover they are two of a kind and decide to hitch on for a lifetime.

Now comes the twist in the tale in the form of 2 mamas(maternal uncles of Asin) who want to get her married off to their respective brothers in law because the lissom lady carries with her a sumptuous bequeathed legacy. And the biggest problem is they act and live like Mafioso dons, always snapping and terrorising the world around.

The 2nd half is very cohesive and well narrated as Salman as the protagonist weaves a cunning, complicated and funny web of lies, mistaken identities and manages to reform the entire mama clan till they all join hands in the finale and sing the Song Of Unity.

The movie, no doubt is entertaining, very lively and colourful. The sets are grand and 90% of the shooting has been carried out in Thailand, notably Bangkok. The supporting cast is EXCELLENT and particularly suited to their roles. They provide the marinade to the meat making the final meal winsome looking and delectable to eat.

The music is catchy and Dhin ka Chika has 2 versions, one in Bangkok and the other in the final credits in Mumbai. Both are solid fun. The rest of the songs are well placed too. The photography is appropriate capturing the Thai temple beauty in the songs and a special mention to the anticlimactic chase filmed in the crowded vegetable market of the city.

It’s the movie’s performances that carry the show for the major part. There is no plot, no story to talk of, absolutely no pretence at that. It’s a series of episodes sewn together and it’s the artistes who with their comic timing and perfect facial expressions make this is an enjoyable affair. Like a typical comedy movie, there are numerous cameo roles that make up the colourful tapestry of the family portrait.

The remarkable performances that I find mentionable are Mahesh Manjrekar as the absent minded forgetful father of Salman, flanked by his ethereally graceful wife, Anooradha Patel. The 2 mamas are hilarious and look like Mini Ravans Caricaturised. Sudesh Lahiri is very good and so are the 2 chachas played by Mannoj Joshi and Manoj Pahwa.

All in all, the movie is not as fulltime entertainment as Dabangg. Dabangg was exclusive, it was stylish. But Salman puts so much of himself into this role as the EVER READY HERO that’s he s simply lovable. He acts very well and his persona stays with you for long after. Asin in exceptional in first few scenes where she enters the household like a bullet train and rattles off long dialogues ala Ghajini style but gradually she loses lustre. Too mauch eye batting and coy smiles and those irritating blushes tend to put the viewer off after a while.

Ready is a great family entertainer. Enjoy it with your kids this Summer, or make it a date flick. All the ways, it worksJ Special mention to the humour. Dialogues like koi to rok lo etc are all add ons by Salman and he makes the film totally watchable.
