Who Says Radio’s Dead !??? Well, Bangalore’s first FM station Radio City has definitely proved otherwise. In the space of a few months, Radio City has taken Bangalore by storm. In a country where Music forms a part and parcel of everyday life, the concept of free music is not exactly new. Bangalore alone has three FM stations while there are also various parallel stations such at Radio Mirchi in Ahmedabad. But, what is it about Radio City that leaves the other stations lagging far behind, of course, apart from the fact that they play some great music. Hmmm..for one, there definitely would be the cool RJ’s who have become sort of celebrities in Bangalore. But, the main reason would probably be the involvement of the station into the lives of the local people, from wacky contests to pollution updates to traffic conditions, and all these while still keeping entertainment as the main priority. Hats off to Radio City. Some of the best stuff on air is listed below :-
1) Request Show { Weekdays at 2 } :- This would definitely be the most popular show since it involves direct interaction with the listeners. Hosted by RJ’s Jonzi and Gita Modgil, it plays some great music both from Bollywood as well as Hollywood. Unfortunately, due to some reasons, names of people are not taken on air these days, pity especially if you have send out some personal dedications. And the fights between the two RJ’s also add to the charm of the program.
2) Radio City Café { Weekdays at 4 } :- Well, watch this program mainly, not for their musical content, but for the RJ. Hosted by the incredibly sensuous (as far as you can make out by her voice) Gita Modgil. This girl is definitely one psycho chick with a voice you can fantasize about.
3) Breakfast Show { Weekday Morning at 7 ) :- A really nice way to kick off the day , great music, interesting news and traffic updates. Hosted by Rohit Barker and Vera Mascarenhas ,who come a close second to Gita Modgil as the best RJ’s. And the music content isn’t bad either.
4) Hot Air {weekday at 6} :- Hosted by the local boy Suresh Venkat ,quite an entertaining RJ who comes up with some good jokes occasionally, this a show mainly about Bollywood Music and Bollywood gossip. Good Music and some cool contests make this a must-listen show. Though I personally feel that it could do without the local Kannada songs in between.
Apart from these shows, Radio City offers a bit for everybody. For the people who love the oldies, there’s Sheetal Iyer’s show weekdays at 11. For international music, there’s the World Chart show on weekends. For techno and trance, there’s again the Club Show on weekends. Overall, Radio City has a bit for everybody and metes it out with a unique style of its own. Radio City, Entertainment at its BEST.
Long Live the Radio!
