Purple Haze is located on Residency road , away from the other Bangalore pubs that mushroom around MG Road and Brigade Road. This pub prides itself on its rock music , you get to see on VCD’S with lyrics displayed along …..Its fun singing along aloud with everyone. Even the waiter croaks along ‘Eighteen till I die ‘kinda stuff. This is one of the most unique pubs and one of my personal favorites.
I visited Purple Haze many times while stationed in Bangalore. It’s the final destination for many pub milers out-of-towners like me, and its not hard to see why ! It probably holds the highest population per square meter on any day .On a weekend it is bedlam!. Humanity here is it's most colourful. At it's noisiest. At it's happiest. At it's most inebriated. No“I am a Barbie-Girl …” crowd.
The rock music beats everything else! The latest and powerful Bose speakers are amazing .It may be a great feeling to sway on Guns and Roses in full blast but it’s another feeling if you are in the Indiana concert seeing Axl Rose actually play .There is music from Ozzy ,Led Zeppelin ,Doors,Dire Straits,Pink Floyd…….You name it.This place really rocks. Music pulsates through the veins of Bangaloreans. It is no wonder that the city stands as the headquarter for the satellite radio World Space and boasts of the first private FM to go on air, the RadioCit y 91FM. A ringing tribute to the city.
While definetly a dive pub ,there is a lot of old-world charm. Purple Haze is Jimi Hendrix ‘s Famous song of the same title , the pretty hazy inside decor of this pub has glowing walls paying tributes to Jimi Hendrix, Beatles ,Jim Morrison etc., The glowing paintings on walls have that light purple haze and hence the name ? or is it that cocaine when burnt gives a purple flame .??? So you got where the name of the pub comes from.
A pint of Kingfisher beer costs 70/Rs ,other cocktails are not expensive. I am not much of a cocktails person and neither are the rest of the gang who join me in the worship of Bacchus. We are just a band of good hard drunkards who drink to get sloshed and listen to classic rock and that's that. Order for peanuts,if you can wait for 30 minutes ,and for French fries for 15 minutes. Otherwise the service is pretty good. Try grilled platter, If I remember correctly, includes a variety of kababs, drums of heaven, and tandoori cooked chicken stuff. Food is quite good but Kababs are not up to the mark .I would not recommend much of snacking in this place.
Parking is not a hasstle. Loo and washrooms aren’t bad either.
So Hitch your horse to the rail outside ,toddle down and saunter in to wet your whistle!..!.
Anyone can paint pictures and dress up. Few can bring Hendrix back to life.!
Fantastic pub ,go there ! at once
