* Movie in Brief :
This movie presents us the real story of Kiranjit
Ahluwalia, a Punjabi housewife and mother of two in
London, who is unable to bear the brutality and repeated rapes by her
alcoholic husband, sets him on fire and kills him, second it highlights the condition of the Indian women.
-
Aishwarya Rai plays the lead role as Kiranjit Ahluwalia. Naveen Andrews plays Deepak Ahluwalia husband of Kiranjit, ** who is based in London.
Kiranjit, getting married to Deepak seemed like a perfect dream come true for her like any woman. She feels the marriage will bring along the charm of living abroad, no
worries financially –
she seemed to have everything for her. But the dream seemed to be short-lived
since Kiranjit’s husband turns out to be an alcoholic who takes
pleasure in assaulting her physically and mentally. Things don’t
improve even after they had two children and the situation became
intolerable for her on a continued basis. One day she feels he's crossed all the limits in anger , she is left with no option but to kill her
very own husband and she sets him on fire.
Kiranjit finds herself
behind bars and her punishment is life time imprisonment but she is
instead relieved. ** Why? Because behind bars she finally found life and
freedom.
*She learns to adjusts with the situation at the prison. Finally support comes from her
cellmate, a British woman, who is financially quite well-off and has a
Queen's Counsel as a brother.
On hearing Kiranjit’s plight,
her cellmate helps her file an appeal through her brother.
Kiranjit’s voice is finally
been heard and there seems to be a better tomorrow ahead. A tomorrow
that would help her unite with her children.
But finally the truth comes out and
Kiranjit’s is freed by the judicial system. she reunites with her children,
she is in fact even given an award by the Prime Minister's wife for her
crusade against domestic violence.

I feel Aishwarya Rai as she has done full jutice to the role of kiranjit Alhuwalia, At least in this movie she's acted well and no heavy make up.
I Feel this movie is a lesson to learn from and atleast I can say that woman are not loosers all the time and won't let men to take things for granted all the time.
This movie also shows that domestic
violence or any kind of physical abuse, rape will not be tolerated.
Had I been in her place may be I would do the same. Can't let men have the upper hand always.
