Hi,
Since last couple of years, I am based in Bangalore. Good quality drinking water seems to be a general issue here as the ''cauvery water'' supplied by municipal corporation is not available in all the localities. Most of the time, we need to buy the bottled water (25 liters) for drinking and cooking. Of late, I found that there are too many local brands in the drinking water business and getting the water has become a big hassle. Moreover the quality of the water is not assured from the same brand as they do NOT have a very standard process.
So I started my research for a good water purifier. My research started with the ''age old'' UV technology based water purifiers and resin based water purifiers. These technologies kill the germs/micro-organisms from the water but do not work on the taste of the water. Moreover if the water is hard, these technologies can do nothing do reduce/remove the hardness. These solution are fine in case you are getting regular supply of soft drinking water from your municipal corporation. In an apartment, the availability of soft ''Cauvery water'' is not always assured as it depends on the locality. So I needed a water purifier, which could soften the water if required. To take care of this, the conventional water purifier would require a water softener which takes some space and maintenance. So I dropped the idea of purchasing the UV based water purifier.
Then I turned my attention to ''RO''(Reverse Osmosis'') based water purifiers as the technology seems to be the latest and most efficient in water purification. This was the general observation of the user in western country who are using this technology for some time now. Also the technology promised a constant quality of drinking water and found indeed this technology is a way forward. Specially in India, where the we can not make assumption on the input water supply quality.
The technology is fairly standardized and there is nothing to choose in terms of better a process. So the choice of the vendor was based on the price point, look and feel of the product, service network. In Bangalore, I could find few vendors like Pristine, Eureka forbes and Kent RO. I interacted with each representative to understand the pros and cons of their product and their ability to sell their product in a positive way instead of finding faults with the others.
The Eureka forbes guys were the worst people to deal with. They were hell bent on selling the UV water purifier in spite of my very specific requirements. They were claiming if I use RO filters in my locality, it would result in ''distilled water'' which could be injuries to my health and so on. They were insisting that I must purchase the product if I want to see a demo which was extremely ridiculous. They seemed to be the least confident about their product. So I dropped Eureka forbes from the list.
Then I approached Kent RO for the demo. The product seemed be good and the sales people able to demonstrate it neatly. But I did not choose it because the company does not have an established record in Bangalore and the model was wall mounted which looked ugly. The table top model was not readily available and more over was expensive than its competitors.
Finally, I approached Pristine guys. The experience of dealing with these guys was very good. They came and demonstrated the unit at my place in a very neat manner. They were able to explain all the terms involved in the technology and clear my doubts. I also enquired about the product feedback from various customers who brought this earlier. Their feedback was generally positive and encouraging.
Finally I have brought 7 liters table top model which looks quite sleek. The ZeroB has a good branch and service network in Bangalore. I have brought this unit about 6 months back.
Till now, the unit is working absolutely fine without giving me any trouble.
