Back to raid MS again this month, desperate to tear off the aata-hai-jaata-hai public tag, ha ha! And presenting the second in the series of reviews influenced (if not contributed) by my kid sis (the first one being on a chocolate, my most awful write-up till date!). Here we go ::::::::
How come I'm the first to write on this topic?
3 reviews on Pokemon and not one on the Powerpuff Girls? How's that possible? This is, as far as I'm concerned, the single most favourite cartoon show of little girls between 4 ? 10, still, in spite of the Pokemon craze. Every kid in our locality, not to speak of the Pokemon (i.e. Pocket-Monster, as she literally is) in our house, seem to be crazy about the show. They'd buy PPG colouring books, wear PPG t-shirts and what not!
And just to add, some moms and dads also happen to admit that PPG is their favourite cartoon show!
So who are the Powerpuff Girls?
The Powerpuff Girls are three extremely cute little girls with extraordinary superpowers, ''fighting crime to save the world'' as in their words. They are the smart-and-pretty Blossom, the cute-and-joyful Bubbles, and the tomboyish Buttercup. With those large eyes and simple colorful animation, they're just tooooooo cute to resist! You will just at once discover yourself falling for their charm.
Where did they come from?
To put it correctly, from Professor Utonium's lab! That?s where. Tired of life at the crime-ridden city of Townsville, Prof. Utonium longed for a perfect daughter and thus he put together that eternal concoction of ''sugar, spice and everything nice'' into a container, but accidentally the mysterious Chemical X spilled into it. And thus resulted, not one but three lovely girls ? and yeah, with superpowers to boot! That?s how the PPG came to existence.
And now, just a little bit of the characters:
Blossom : Red-haired and dressed in pink, Blossom resulted from the 'everything nice' part of the concoction. She's the leader of the group, and is just too intelligent and good in studies.
Bubbles :Blond, blue-eyed and extremely cuddly, Bubbles is the 'sweet' part of the concoction that created them. Compassionate and idealistic, she has this power of understanding the language of animals, and loves gardening and colouring pictures. Her special power is ice breath.
Buttercup:The youngest, toughest and 'spice' of the trio, Buttercup is always ready to kick some ass. Blessed with a sharp tongue and an eternal distaste for taking baths.
Prof. Utonium : He's kind of the father-figure of the girls and has this very square face. Every inch the bhola-bhala yet intelligent and idealistic scientist you'd expect.
Miss Keane : The only teacher ever seen at the PPG's school
Mayor : The mayor of Townsville. He's as tall as a five-yr-old girl, totally phony and has his hat floating mysteriously a few inches above his head.
Miss Bellum : The mayor's voluptuous secretary, fashionable, hot ? but without a head! Big mystery why her face is never shown
The villains : The PPG fights all kinds of enemies, but there are just a few that are staple. This includes Mojo Jojo (the big-brained evil monkey), Him (a somewhat effeminate crab-monster), the Gangreen Gang (a group of extremely yucky green-skinned rotten creeps) etc.
And some serious talk too?.
Nowadays it?s fashionable to shout one's lungs out against violence in children's programmes. But seriously, how can the world exist without a little bit of violence? You see, everyone agrees that kids must be taught to stand up for the right, and every time you stand up for (or against) something ? that's violence!
You must admit that little much has to be accepted, and the PPG shows have only that little much of violence to speak of. The little girls are so lovable that you hardly associate the word violence with them. The stories are quite nice, and each come with a cute little moral value. What cooler way to teach the kids that they should eat their lettuce and finish their homework properly?
Lastly....
And so the day was saved, thanks to the ?..
