If you are a die hard romantic ir you are looking for a novel to read whilst travelling or lying on the beach then the Playboy by Carly Phillips is the book for you. Carly Philips is an attorney turned romance writer and has wriiten lots of books for the Hrlequin Romance range. Whilst The Playboy is not part of this range it is part of a trilogy of books that revolve around the Chandler Men as the author calls them. The Chandler Men are in chronological order Chase, Rick and Roman. These are the three sons of Raina Chandler, a widow who has brought the boys up by herself with the help of her eldest son Chase. All three are incredibly good looking, sexy and all round nice guys and the entire trilogy revolves around the fact that all three of them are reluctant to settle down whilst the mother would like grand kids and hence conspires various schemes to get them to settle down.
The Playboy is the second book in the Trilogy and revolves around the second son Rick Chandler. Rick is a cop in a small city is upstate New York who is essentially the towns most eligible bachelor. His mother is constantly encouraging women to try and entice him with some quite hilarious results. Rick however has been badly hurt in love before and hence does not want to get caught again until he goes to the assistance of a runaway bride Kendall Sutton who is returning to the Town to finish some unsettled business. Kendall has her own realtionship demons and does not want to settle down either. However in Kendall Rick finds an ally who will assist him in putting an end to his mothers matchmaking. However, neither Rick nor Kendall can deny the strong mutual attraction that they feel for each other....Do they get together in the end...Does Rick learn to love again ...Does Kendall Bury her past... Do you really care? Well if you do then you'll have to read the book. Although it is a predictable story it is very well written with a host of pleasant supporting characters. It is a good easy read and is heart warming in some places. Very rarely does it get really sickly. Although part of a trilogy you do not need to read the first before you read this. I didn't although now having read this I would like to read the other two simply because the characters are so likeable that I would like to read the other two books. I do not however have a desire to read any other books by the same author.
If you like your books full of action, or to be educational etc then these boks are probbaly not for you. In fact I doubt whether any man would be seen dead with a copy. However for all you ladies out there who appreciate romance you will find an easy to read book with absurdly beautiful and lovely characters with a story that will warm your heart. I read the book and fell in love with the Chandler men and if you read it I'm sure you will too.
