Yes there were two kids of around 10-12 years of age came with their family to watch the most scary movie and they were all fine at the end.
I was eagerly waiting for this movie since I have seen one of the promotional poster in one cinema hall.the promotional poster as well as the website is really attractive but the movie does not have any good effect on the viewers.I am shocked after watching this movie how Ramu can bet for watching his latest scary flick alone in the theater for Rs 5 Lacs as prize.that was just a publicity stunt and now the real reviews on the movie coming out through different ways.
I am a die hard horror movie buff, I like to watch scary movies alone and if got a company then its fine always. In our friends group, we have enjoyed many English horror movies and some good bollywood horror movies in theaters as well as in our PCs.but after I got marry a year and half back I have no option to watch horror movies in theater, so I watch my favorite movies on TV or PC.
Last year I got a chance to watch a somewhat scary movie by Priyadarshan - Bhool Bhulaiya, with my wife, which was overall a good movie.and my wife who can't watch horror movies and she was really scared after watching the movie and I got a good chance to tease her sometimes on the name of Manjulika.but Ramu has take this chance from me with his movie Phoonk.my right arm and shoulder got a real pain after the movie Bhool Bhulaiya because my wife repeatedly holding my arm during the movie and keep on pinching and pushing in any scary scene.she was so scared that she didn't even watch many good scenes due to fear.
Now I am feeling regret on spoiling my Saturday evening by watching the so called scary movie - Phoonk, and simply wasted 280 bucks on such average movie.I have missed some good flicks like Mumbai Meri Jaan, etc in Adlabs and I have wasted my time in the hall which was hardly filled 10% of its capacity.I am writing on the latest so called scary movie from the RGV camp which is not at all scary in any sense.I can bet if my wife enjoyed the movie without any fear then small or big kids can also watch this movie alone.
RGV ka Nimbu Paani Stall
Movie dekhkar aisa laga jaise RGV ne nimbu paani stall lagaya hai aur uske nimbu ka taste bhi ekdum pheeka hai.
Ramu's Old Horror Movies
I liked most of his old scary creations like Raat(1992), Bhoot(2003), Vastu Shastra(2004) but Phoonk can't be placed even behind them.It is a fact all of his scary movies have one and the same story/plot but other than Phoonk all the movies were liked by most of the viewers.May be the known star cast was one of the reason but those movies were all good.all of them some or more horror scenes that can scare the viewers but Phoonk does not have even a single scene that can scare you in any sense.
Scary Items of Phoonk
The movie has just some repeated shots of decorative items like cordless holder in a Monkey statue, Girraffe statue or other small and big pictures in the home to scare the viewers.the sound effect in the movie is not so catchy, noise of grrrrrr, grrrrr, or crow's noise can't scare viewers.use of crow in many scenes was an worthless attempt.use of dreaming something bad and many stupid scenes(spl increasing hands of granny, turning of calender in the kitchen) were quite boring.you will not find scary faces in the movie but the change in the personality of the small girl was used to scare the viewers.
Base of the movie
The story of the movie based on the black magic done by the X-business partners to the small daughter of the builder to horrify the family and to take revenge from the builder for their insult.Ramu has not even hide the main culprits, viewer can easily imagine that this all bad is done by the revengeful couple.the character of Madhu was highly suspectful from her very first appearance.
It is mainly a story of a small family with a atheist father whose belief systems are shaken up when he and his family members face some unexplainable horrors by forces whose very existence his rational mind refuses to accept.and his fanatical devotee wife who was forced to turn her back on God in the face of traumatic experiences.small lovely kids, another devotee in the family as granny and one honest dometic help.
Attractions of the movie
The only attraction of the movie is the acting of small girl, Ahsaas Channa, who played the role of daughter of an atheist father Sudeep and highly devotee mother Amruta Khanvilkar.the role of bad couple played by Kenny Desai & Ashwini Kalsekar was also attractive but only because of the acting skills of Ashwini Kalsekar as physhy woman.Another highlight of the movie was the very different acting done by Zakir Hussain as a man with some super natural power who helped the small kid and family to escape from the conspiracy against them.the acting of atheist builder and devotee house wife were OK.
The characters of psychiatrist/doctor played by K K Raina & Lillete Dubey were just fine.Other characters of the movie were Ganesh Yadav as Sudeep's lawyer cum friend, Anu Ansari as domestic help, Shankar Sachdev as Sudeep's employee and Jyothi Subhash Dadi Amma of the kids.
Ramu's typical direction was not seen in the movie.Cinematography by Savita Singh is just average, Sound effects by Kunal Mehta & Parikshit Lalwani were not up to the mark.
From the very beginning and before the climax the movie mixes up the mind of the viewers with the belief that there is a rational and scientific explanation to each and every one of the occurrences. But in the end viewers came to know that there are supernatural happenings and that can be handled with the some super natural power.
Happy Ending
Another small but good thing of the movie was everybody was happy, an atheist understood the power of black magic and its remedy, mother was happy to see her daughter fine, and doctors were happy with their own belief of science and medical knowledge.
After posting this review I can only suggest you to watch this movie in your home only if you wish to watch RGV's latest scary movie.don't waste your hard earned money for this movie in theatre.
Thanks for reading this review.
