Since the 625K was out of stock I purchased the 626K.The only difference between the two is that the 626 does not have the display window of the 625.
Since this is basically a DVD player, nothing great was expected with other discs. But, audio cds and Audio Dvds played perfectly with excellent quality sound.
Since I listen to music a lot I found the user preferences for audio very useful to tailor the sound output to the input of my amp.
The volume control on the remote is a very useful feature, which helps you to reduce/increase volume without leaving your seat or holding your tv remote in your other hand.
Unfortunately Phillips has not continued this extensive user interface on its later and present models.
Region change was a breeze with the method got from the net.
Since I preferred audio cds to mp3 for the sound quality, I played more of audio cds. But mp3 cds too played with good quality output.
But once the player reached its middle age, it used to skip tracks while playing mp3.
Also, though in the first year of using it, vcds were not a problem, as so many others had mentioned, the player used to hang when the secondĀ vcd of a set was inserted. This was more from heating up I think, because once it was shut down and allowed to cool, it used to work fine.
Similarly, the first track used to be skipped on an audio cd.
Small irritants these, but irritants they were.
Unlike many other brands, the remote was not a battery guzzler.
I would have still held on to the 626k, but the present feature of divx was lacking so sadly I parted company with it after a trouble free service of 3 years.I did not have the heart to trade it in on any exchange offers, so I gave as a gift to one of my staff.
I purchased a Samsung P475. IĀ returned it to the shop after 3 days because it did not have even one of the audio user interface features of a 626.(Will write review soon)
I picked up a Philips5965K, which has at least some of the audio options similar to the 626.(Review coming soon)
It is safer to stick to the brand which ushered in most of the innovations in audio and video.
Way to go Chappati Player!
