Pepsodent 2 in 1 is a combination of gel and normal fluoride toothpaste and labeled as Germichek Plus. This toothpaste is Manufactured by Mul Dentpro Pvt. Ltd., and marketed by Hindustan Lever.

HLL is trying their level best to position this in the market with the help of very attractive TV advertisement and several lucrative schemes. All of you might have seen that very active boy expressing his enthusiasm to use this paste even hundred times a day to get the full set of 10 GIJOE. My 10 year old son is crazy to have full set.

One fine morning (11th July) we went to Deccan (Pune) to buy one just to get one GIJOE. Our son was very happy to get one in the very first shop but didn’t like the GIJOE – Chameleon. Afterward we had gone to several shops but this product was not available on that day. So came back to first shop but some papa like me took it way by that time. I really felt bad. So in the evening went to Laxmi Road but could not get one. After a day came back to Roha and on the way we searched in some outlets even at Lonavala. Son was very upset and mammy tried to her best to cheer up him. Next day we went to local market to buy some groceries and my wife very casually asked the man in counter about the product with GIJOE. To our surprise he brought two – one with Chameleon and other one with Snake Eyes. We purchased the one with Snakes Eyes and came home. For my son it was like winning a lottery. Happy moments.

We all started to use this because we have to collect nine more JIGOE. We all liked the appearance and taste of this reasonably foamy product. Everyone certified it as a good product. As per the scheme price for one 150 gm + 100 gm + 1 GIJOE is Rs. 81/- only. As per the claim of HLL, they have charged only Rs. 17/- for the GIJOE instead of Rs. 75/- (I have my doubt).

I was highly impressed and requested MouthShut to add this in the list. MS was kind enough to add this within 12 hours. In the meantime used my favorite searched engine Copernic to know more about the product so that I can do some justice to the product. And outcome of that search is as mentioned below. Key ingredients are, as written on the box, Triclosan, Sodium Fluoride, Silica, Sorbitol. As a detergent they may be using SLS.

Is Triclosan safe? The EPA registers it as a pesticide, giving it high scores as a risk to both human health and the environment. This chlorinated aromatic chemical seems to be a highly toxic compound may cause severe damage to human body.

There is a wave site named as LINDA CHAE’ – “You have a right to know”. Link is - https://lindachae.com/triclosan.htm You may go to that site to know more about Triclosan.

Prolong use of this chemical will have very ill effect on our young generation. One more link to address this Triclosan controversy is - https://consciouschoice.com/health/triclosan1207.html

Another devil in it is Sodium fluoride. As per the claim written on the box, Fluoride content is less than 1000 ppm. ‘ppm’ is parts per million or mg/ cubic meter. This may prescribed limit set by some organization. But you will come to know about the hazard related to Sodium Fluoride if you go to the next link - https://mindbodyhealth.com/health-talk/_health-talk/0000058e.htm

I wonder what will happen to these poor boys even after two brushing a day with this toothpaste that contain Triclosan and Sodium Fluoride. Never expected such an unethical advertisement like this from a MNC of repute. I am in a fix. Finding it difficult to convince my son.

In USA, EPA has banned some toys treated with Triclosan to make it antibacterial.

I really wonder about the role of Indian Dentist Association. Are they playing with the mass by keeping quite on such serious issues?

Be careful please do not get convinced by this unethical advertisements, let it be from the most reputed one. It is better to know the ingredients in any product and search net to know more about the ingredients. After all your health is in stack. Some of the ingredients may be in suspected category in some cases but it is better to avoid because such suspects may be a real hazard for you and dear one.
