Nestled away in Pennsylvania's Dutch country is a town named Quarryville which is the home to Yogi Bear's Campground (Jellystone). Finding this campground is one of the best things my family ever did! From start to finish you are bound to have a great time! They have several different types of accommodations. Rustic campsites, campsites with water and electric,1 room 2 room or 3 room rustic cabins (heat and a refrigerator), luxury cabins (private bath and mini kitchen), and RV sites. We have stayed at campsites with water and electric and 1 and 2 room luxury cabins and have been satisfied with our accommodations each time.
Every weekend at the campground there is a theme. Theme's range from Luau's to pig roasts to couples weekends. There are scheduled activities based on the theme that weekend. Most activities are geared toward the children but some include the whole family. These are supervised activities and parents don't need to be present at all of them. We have found these scheduled activities to be conducive to a great vacation, the kids have fun at the activity and the parents get a breather from the kids. Some activities (ie crafts) have a small fee which is always reasonable and some (scavenger hunt) are free. There are 2 play grounds for the kids which are very centrally located. There also is a basketball court and a pool. Adult supervision is necessary for kids at the pool. We have not yet gone when the pool was open (we have gone in early June and in October) so I cannot attest to if it gets overcrowded. Every Saturday and Sunday morning Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Bear are at the Ranger Station for flag raising and afterwards pose for pictures with any children that want to. They stay until all have had their turn. I have found this picture to be pricey (5.00 for a polaroid in a small frame) so I usually take my camera and they will take the picture with my camera so I can be in the picture too.
You can have Yogi visit your site for anyone's birthday for an additional fee. He can either come with a cake and card or with a cake, card, and a stuffed animal. This has shown to be a big hit every year when we have Yogi come for my son's birthday. The staff is always courteous and extremely helpful. They are also very watchful of what is going on in their campground to make sure there is no trouble. The 5 mph speed limit is enforced strictly on the campground which is crucial with all the small children there.
Every site is equipped with a 'pit' for making campfires and there is a store at the Ranger Station which carries just about anything you could need. There is also a picnic table at every site. One of our favorite activities is making smores at the campfire. Our favorite theme weekend is 1 of the 4 Halloween weekends. Everyone has a blast every year! You can decorate your site and participate in the contest for best decorated site (judged by other campers). There is a pumpkin carving contest, costume judging, crafts, and of course trick-or-treating from site to site. Tip - be sure to bring enough goodies to hand out and be ready for a lot of walking! We take our wagon to pull the little ones around. The location of the campground is convenient to Lancaster Pa so you can easily go out to eat, tour dutch country, go shopping at the outlets or just about anything else you may want to do on your vacation.
We have found Jellystone Campground Quarryville to be a great vacation for the whole family every single time we have gone and highly recommend it to everyone!! Happy Trails!!!
