When it comes to food, I am not fussy. My mom loves me for this very good reason. Other reasons could be that I am the only kid. When she goofs up at the kitchen, she will have to hear lot of grunts from her husband i.e. my dad. But me, I just enjoy the food. Not just enjoy eating the food; In fact I even compliment her for the lovely food. Perhaps, I love my mom way too much to overlook if the salt is less, or it’s spicier. Mom sometimes wonders if there is something wrong with my taste buds. When I got married, my wife would pack my lunch box. Of late, My work timings has changed and I need to , I have to , I must, and I will be in the office by 8 a.m. sometimes my wife would cook if she wakes up by 6. Sometimes she wouldn’t, but she wakes up just in time to fix my tie, make sure I have breakfast and tea. ''Sorry sweetheart, you will have to eat outside'', she would say. ''That’s ok'' I would say with a smile, and I would eagerly wait for lunch time because I go to Paramount for lunch.
Location and ambience ...
Paramount restaurant is located on Kelly's Road, a quiet semi residential place. My office is just five and a half stones throw away. There are two parking attendants who would take care of your bike. You would be asked not to lock the handle. Just give your vehicle to them and walk in.
Food
You would find there are two sections - A/C and regular. The menu differs. If you go to Non Ac, you get the regular South Indian stuff perhaps a little chettinad style. When ever I drop in here, the non AC section, I chose to have the regular Thali type meals. This comes with three types of Non-Veg yummy in the tummy curries, spicy and filling - just the way I like it - if you thought I was spending way too much on this type of palatable luxury , it comes for just Rs. 25/-. Paramount is known for Mogul Biryani, which is slightly on the expensive side, but worth the price. You get the oily greasy and delicious grilled chicken for a price that’s so less when compared to the taste.
Coming to the A/C section, you would be greeted by those guys wearing bow ties and for every occasion they would bow down to you and say yes sir. All said and done the place is clean. Though I cannot comment much about the ambient because there isn’t anything much. Compared to the AC restaurant standards this place is pretty decent for a hang out.
The Menu here contains of the usual stuff like Biryani’s, but with more garnishing and seasoning. Place is known best for Mutter paneer, Gobi manchurian, Roti with dal fry, and yummy as ever butter paneer masala. Do I see your mouth watering or is my monitor drooling? Ideally you must go with atleast 3 to 5 colleagues and go dutch , order for roti's side dishes and some veg friend rice. Expense per head comes to a little above 40 / - per head.
There is a lot of crowd at the Non-AC section, but you don’t have to wait too long to get a vacant seat. Coming to the AC, you don’t have to wait at all; usually the place is half empty. Like I said before the restaurant is located at a semi residential locality, little too far from the main road.
So, now some of you lovely people may ask me, Ok Davie, so next time I am in Chennai, you are treating me there right. Why yes, definitely. The treat is mine, you pay the bill. (Now that is what I call a joke, har har). Just kidding people, Treat is definitely mine depending on the time of the month and depends if my wife has packed lunch or not.
and for desserts...
Usually this section finds itself in movies reviews of mine , but now it has come to the right place where it rightly belongs. Paramount is ideal for the married couple who work pretty late and have no time to cook. Since it is easy on the wallet. The range and the taste of food are just too good- you may find yourself licking fingers usually that’s ok, nothing so in-decent about it. So please meet me over lunch at lunch time and treat me for lunch. Of course let’s split the bill.
