I wanted to write a review on Metal music so I hit one of my fav. artist in Metal - Judas Priest in the search box..I thought I might have to choose between several masterpieces... But unfortunately I found only one category...So here I am writing about one of my fav. artist..
Let us have a conversation.. Let me be me and let thou be my friend (Nothing Personal)..
Friend : So who Is Judas Priest. Is it the guy from the bible.
Me : No it is not a guy but a band - A British Heavy Metal Band.
Friend :So what do they do :
Me :Play music ofcourse..The most hard-hitting music ever heard.
Friend:So Is There any lyrics involved or is it just plain instruments like Alice Cooper
Me :Ofcourse there is lyrics involved.Lyrical theme(s) being Fantasy / Sci-Fi, Independence, Rock / Metal, Sex.
Friend :Seems interesting tell me something more about the band.I would like to know their history and stuff like that..
Me :Well the band members are
Rob Halford - vocals
Glenn Tipton - guitars
K. K. Downing - guitars
Ian Hill - bass guitar
Scott Travis - drums
Don Airey - keyboards
they started off playing as aband in 1970.And their Debut was the album Roca Rolla released in 1976.And then they went on to release the most famous album Sad Wings Of Destiny..
Friend :Yeah I've heard a lot about this album..
Friend :Okay move on lets talk about this album I've heard enough of the basic band history...
Me :Okay I seem to have gotten overboard..So heres my view on the album..In my opinion this is by far one of the best works of Judas Priest.Well the best work of this particular band has to be British Steel but this one is real good nevertheless.
Friend :So you are basically advising me to buy British Steel rather than this album..
Me :I would suggest you to start off with that album..If you liked that one you are sure to like ''Painkiller''.
Friend:hmmm...
Me :Painkiller is a 1990 gold-certified album of British heavy metal band Judas Priest which ranks up there with classics like Screaming for Vengeance, Stained Class and British Steel..This album is full of amazing guitar work (Just like in any other album of Judas Priest) from one of the most underrated guitarists in the genre: Tipton and Downing... No talk about the drum work, incredible, with great double-bass. Rob Halford makes a great improvement here in this album..
Friend :Tell me whats that for an album cover..Looks like someone is riding a bike..
Me :The noticeable feature about the cover is that you not only see a metal body but that metal body rides a metal monster a motorcycle with a dragon for the chassis and two circular saws for wheels. he Painkiller itself is one of a series of fictional messiahs created by Judas Priest... The Painkiller is described as a metal messiah..It is believed that this album was sent to the world to purge it from those who are deemed untrue to the metal cause...
Me :Okay enough said..Lets move on to track-listings...So here are the songs that are going to Metal your head up..
1. ''Painkiller'' - 6:06
Well what can you say..You are able to see Scott Travis at his best..Lyrics is also pretty good..
2. ''Hell Patrol'' - 3:37
Another great piece of metal..Listen it for the great solo's involved in it..
3. ''All Guns Blazing'' - 3:58
Not one of my fav. but still worth the listen..
4. ''Leather Rebel'' - 3:35
5. ''Metal Meltdown'' - 4:49
Here you see what a person like Halford can do with the guitar - In my opinion a masterpiece..
6. ''Night Crawler'' - 5:45
The most popular song in this album..Tipton's guitar never sounded better...
7. ''Between the Hammer & the Anvil'' - 4:49
Not a very good pice but still contains real good solo's..
8. ''A Touch of Evil'' 5:45
A dark song..Observe or rather listen to the lyrics very carefully..
9. ''Battle Hymn'' - 0:58
Probably the smallest song that I've ever heard..But this song has touched my heart for what it is..
10. ''One Shot at Glory'' - 6:49
Sadly the album has ended..But the last track leaves us expecting a lot more than we usually do..But, unfortunately, Rob Halford left in 1993 after this classic..
Me :Hope you didn't sleep through what I've been saying...My advise would be ''go and buy this album NOW..''
Waiting for your reply..
Yous sincerely me
