INTRODUCTION
Everybody loves hair. Who does not? Unless you are an Olympic swimmer or a professional athlete or a shaved-head fashion freak. Hair is a sign of identity. It gives you one and chances your appearance accordingly, whether you have it or not, whether it is black, blond, grey, red or any color you want to have. Just think how you would look like if you do not have your eyebrows. It totally changes your identity and is prohibited in many countries for the same reason. It is also a known fact that hair is a primary concern for people all over the world, to the extent 40-50%. There is a saying in Tamil which goes like'Thalikku Mela Velai Irukku' that means'I have a lot of work over my head'. Jokes apart, hair is so important that it becomes a very important component of one's happiness. Hair has an industry by itself. No other bodily part has a bigger industry than hair, when it comes to direct application(!).
Samson's hair was his strength. Many movies have some storyline/comedy based on hair. Hair is a part of fairy-tale stories and it is everywhere. While ultimately its the acceptance of reality and moving on that matters, loss of hair, dandruffs, graying of hair and associated issues cause a lot of instability in ones life. Take Tintin for example he had 4 standing hair, Calvin had only 14 hairs yet they are very popular. Many heroes did not have hair and suffered from alopecia. Napolean Bonaparte, Julius Caeser, Winston Churchill are some classic examples. Nevertheless, having or not having hair does not make one a hero.
Touch wood, I have been blessed with a beautiful hair, mainly due to heriditary. I have a sister who had about 2.25 feet tall hair by the time she was 11. My wife also has some long hair and both of us love it. I thought of sharing some practical tips we have followed, in this review.
TIPS
1. Raking through Fingers - Every day after you wake up, do this so that all the dusts that may have settled(if any) could be pulled out. It is also useful in dusting out the scalps.
2. Brush Well - Use a nice hairbrush and brush them regularly. It definitely needs extra care and time
3.Comb regularly - Always comb you hair. Use the combs suiting your combing style. There are some combs with a larger teeth gap and some with shorter. The latter is for slow combing and the former for faster one. Whatever you use, make sure you do not have gaps in between
4.Dry well Do a blow dry now and then, if you can afford a blower. If not, go for a nice walk in places of breezy wind with open hair, after you have dried your hair. Do not go out wet as you may catch cold.
5.Curl them Again. This is a nice for hair. Even if you have straight hair, it always helps you to curl them. It gives extra strength to your hair.
6.Shampoo them Shampooing is very important as they contain a lot of chemicals that can induce hair growth, enrichment, add glossiness. One may have to be careful about chemicals that can do long term damage. It is very important. As this is not a review about shampoos, I shall let you be the judge in choosing the best one.
7.Trim them - Trimming is very important as it can induce hair growth. It also makes the hair to look nice and neat. No one wants hair like the character Fido Dido or Calvin or Tintin or something like Mohican style right?
8.Condition them - Many people condition for the entire length. Conditioning is good if you apply to the region not in direct contact with your head.(This is what I heard). Conditioning gives a refinement to the skin
9 Apply Gel/Oil If you want to have a glossy look, apply a small amount of hair gel and/or Oil. If you do not want to look as if you are drenched in an oilcan, apply Oil before you go to bed and take bath the next day. You will still have your Oil rich hair for the day. You can avoid them by applying gel. You can also go for some nice herbal oils such as Neelibringadhi Oil, Brahmi Amla Oil and other varieties. There is a lot of herbs that induce healthy hair, used by many.
10. Do not test too many things at once * I mean, sometimes people apply, shampoo, conditioner, dandruff prevention, gel, oil and everything to get faster impacts. Do not try this kind of application of all the things at once. It may be a little too much for your hair, if you apply all of them at once. Take one at a time and see the results before proceeding to the next one. If you want overnight remedy, you can go and get a wig of your liking. Rome was not built in a day. Patience is the key. If you want nice hair, you need to do some work. As you sow, so you reap.
11. Use incense and other means * There is an age old practice followed in Southern India like applying the incense on the long hair that women used to have. It has some nice effects and it does make your hair smell good. It is just a suggestion and as per my sister’s opinion, it has its benefits.
TIPS for dandruff
There are many nice treatments available. Head & Shoulders, Selsun, Brylcreem and all work to an extent. If you take care of your hair regularly, you don’t have to worry about dandruffs a lot, if you take care of your hair regularly. It also wiser to stay away from keeping your head on top of your loved one’s head incase of them having dandruff, not using the same comb and sleeping on the same pillow as a precautionary measure. They will understand it. Many triggers such as excessively cold or warm temperature and/or wind exposures trigger dandruffs. Allergic agents, lesser humidity and stress can play a factor also. Hence, dandruff care is more of a preventive mechanism. You can prevent it at all costs. on a lighter note, those who do not have hair have one lesser thing to worry about.
Opinion on dying and coloring
I am totally against the concept of dying and coloring. You are what you are and nothing can change that. I personally feel that gray hair or a mix of gray and black hair is as beautiful as you. I feel that it adds only artificiality to your hair, besides leaving an effect on your skin for they are indeed strong chemicals. You can certainly disagree with my opinion but beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
CONCLUSION
Hair care is an important thing, if you love your hair. It is one of the best form of identity humankind has. It is very important to take care of your hair to have a better feeling about one’s self. The status of hair makes one happy or unhappy. It really does not matter to those who care less about it. Hair care is all about patience. If you sow well, you will reap better benefits.
Tale good care of your hair, because it is at the top of everything you have(!). Nothing can deny the fact, as you don’t have your hands up always.:-)
Happy hair caring
