Most of us have enjoyed capturing the grand beauty of nature, the magnificent mountains, rivers, huge trees, don’t we all just love that. But there is more to the great outdoors… I have spent a considerable time clicking in the wild myself.

Try to see what other would often overlook or take for granted.

Look a little closer to the ground, there are compositions that could make you an award winning photographer.

What I am going to talk about is Micro-photography. If you are the kind to push yourself to the ground, have no problem with the mud on your clothes, and have the patience of a hunter, this is what you can really enjoy. Trust you me at the time you click, you may not know what you have, but when the results come out, you are going to amaze yourself.

You might want to ask what exactly do you click. Here is the answer, my personal favorites are reptiles, and I have a fancy of clicking lizards, especially Chameleons. To be very honest I would basically hit it off to anything that is colorful or a little diverse. This is something that I tried recently, I clicking the back side of the leaf in normal sunlight; make sure that I had only the leaf in the frame, took the shot from the top. The results came out and it really amazed me.

The first question that come to ones mind is what is the best camera to work with when it come to micro photography, here is a piece of advice chose a SLR camera with good aperture options, the larger the better. I really don’t think shutter speed would matter too much here but most of the SLR these days comes with good stutter speed options. I would advice beginners to start of with a 50mm lens. Stick to one type of lens for at least six months… this will get you into the habit of trucking in and out. This is what my guru has always told me. His theory was that by doing this, it would make you more active and serious about your subject. Of course once you are comfortable with one lens you can always graduate a zoom lens.

Make sure you are properly equipped before you plan to go out for a shoot. As per the camera utilities are concerned, make sure you always have a flash with you. A zoom lenses is always advisable to carry along, helps you reach hard to get to distance. However, like I mentioned before, I would always advice the novice to truck in and out and not user a zoom lens. A 50mm lenses would be a good option but you might want to add a couple more, I would recommend a 35mm and a 28mm. Also remember to always carry a couple of extra films with you.

Here are a few tips to make sure you are a little comfortable while you are working on a shoot. Make sure you are properly equipped with the basics. Water is something that you must carry along with you. Always remember to put a couple of bandages in the bag.

If you are the types that enjoy being one with nature and capturing the simple miracles of life, then I am sure this is something you would really enjoy. So gear up and move to the wild outdoors. Happy clicking.
