This is the review of the Onida Oxygen 29 inch bought in 2005 September. I bought it for 17500 from Bangalore, though the picture quality was not as great as competition. My thought was influenced due to the older Onida that we had at home in my childhood and it had functioned flawlessly for 15 years before it needed a very minor replacement.
The TV worked well for 3 years after which I saw smoke come out and the picture blanked out, but sound was functional. We called Onida service folks and they charged me 1000 rs saying it was "IC damage". (They turned up at our place after repeated calls) The fact was it was a capacitor issue and a minor loose contact. I got conned the first time.
Second time, about 7-8 months after the service, I had the problem of lines on the screen. Very annoying to watch. This time I did not call the "authorized folks". The local TV guy opened and found that hte mother board was pathetic and partly burnt in one portion. Obviously, minimalistic design and cost saving ensured that they did not put a good quality mother board inside the 29 inch TV. I was asked to replace the mother board. But comparing costs, I am just junking the piece of trash.
There was also a systematic degrading of performance over the three years. Picture quality went down, brightness was also a little down. I got used to it, only when my friends pointed out I could make it out.
I advise anyone considering buying Onida to AVOID. This product used to be great in the 80s, in the pure analog era. Now they are utter trash.
