Omkareshwar is a sleepy town near Indore about 90 kms from there. We left for Omkareshwar in morning from Indore, a lot of hills and ghats come in the way and then the river Narmada comes, after that you reach a temple called Mamleshwar which is a very old and revered temple of Lord Shiva, I really felt good there after offering prayers.

It is situated on one bank of River Narmada, you have to cross the river on boat to reach the famous temple of Omkareshwar which is on the other bank of River, nearby there is a union place of River Narmada and Kaveri, it looks really good to watch two rivers joining, nearby there is a dam too.

You can offer eatables and some ceremonial things to the fishes in the river while crossing the river by boat. After reaching the other bank, you have to climb many stairs to reach the main temple which is on a hill.I've seen in a TV programme that there is a Om symbol on the hill and the main shivling which looks broken, they say Om is inscribed on it, that'why the name Omkareshwar. There isn't much extra to see except the religious significance, You can come back to other bank by a bridge constructed on river. There is a saying there "Har kankar mein shankar' means there is God in every stone there. The stones found in river banks or sold in shops are considered sacred and people carry them to put them in their homes. Also the place is famous for numerous caves built alongside the river inhabited by sages.

Thanks for reading my review.Hope it helps you in some way.
