Shakespeare I guess was a dude. Long back, sitting under a tree in some European forest, he mastered human traits like vanity, love, trust, hatred, betrayal, friendship and others.

Vishal Bhradwaj I guess is from the same batch. He is not just another dude. He is even better. Centuries later after Othello was written and played innumerable times, Bharadwaj re-creates the Othello magic in his film Omkara. Ya man. Bharadwaj is a rockstar. Don’t believe it? Go watch Omkara your senses may just come alive.

dddDDhadam ddddDDham dadiya re…sabse bade ladiya re….Omkara. Its not just about this song. The whole movie is the kind that makes you sit up on the movie chair (crossed legged, with shoes on the cinema floor) and enjoy the whole experience of watching a movie that’s unique.

I have been told about Omkara being an adaption of Othello. I can’t comment much on the play as I havnt read it. But having read Shakespeare’s other works I know what he likes to write about.

So what is so special about Omkara? For starters, the movie just rocks. The entire cast has given a stupendous performance. Amongst such performances Saif deserves a stellar appreciation. After all which other actor in the history of bollywood has played a negative role with such brilliance and yet walked away winning the viewers heart? Saif plays - Langda – the lame guy. He is wicked and yet gets all the applause. His performance is smart, fulfilling, adoring and groundbreaking because one does not mind liking him despite him being awful.

There are other actors too. But they are all almost invisible when compared to Saif. Okay, not invisible but just overshadowed. But ya, Saif alone could not have carried this the way he has without the team.

Kareena I guess is once again looking beautiful this is the second time since her debut in Refugee that I have seen her look so good. Though there was less of acting to do for her. Bharadwaj has brought out her beauty by forcing any makeup on her. In fact even in Refugee Kareena had made her presence felt by making a no-makeup appearance.

Ajay was good but just playing his typical best which is the rough and raw guy.

There was some controversy about the profanities used in this movie. Was it essential to use such a language? Though I believe its the directors prerogative to decide what he wants to be a part of the movie. But still I I have something to add.

My mom+dad saw this movie much before I saw it. In fact they were one of those who recommended Omkara to me. Their first reaction when they came back home was…its good! I was surprised. Asked mom about the profanities. She said…well ya. It’s a put off. But the movie is different and good. So who cares! In fact my dad kept humming the song for quite some days! :-)

I guess the movie has an adult certification. So why make a fuss. In fact I believe people who are creating this fuss are those who take with them inside the cinema halls underage individuals.

Do watch this movie. If not for Shakespeare then for the sake of Saif. This probably is the turning point of his career. (Hey this is the second Saif based movie I have penned so far on MS! Kewl).
