Now, remakes have been a very old exercise followed by our Hindi film industry from the 80's onwards. We had the Jeetendra - Sridevi and Jeetendra - Jaya Prada doing the Tohfa's etc. Then there was a rennaissanceof new genre of films and everybody was talking about how the cinema has matured and how the new age Directors are taking efforts and Indian Cinema reaching Cannes, etc.

New scenario:

Early 2000's saw the rise of short, meaningful stories that made you sit back and think about what you had witnessed on the silver screen. Mixed Doubles was a definitely bold statement. Then there are this sudden urges to make DON! And what happens? The film falls flat on its face! The initial BO is because of SRK and nothing else. Kareena Kapoor gyrating on Helen's number of yesteryearsDON was nowhere near the song and the erotic gyrations of the yesteryears fiesty item danceusse.

OSO, is a pure rip off on a classic bySubash Ghai called KARZ. Then you had a very charismatic, chocolate faced, RISHI KAPOOR and a very ruggedly handsome RAJ KIRAN falling for the graceful charms of SIMI GAREWAL. The whole drama of Karz was so beautifully planned. PRAN had a cameo to play and the whole climax was so logically followed.

OSO,

doesnt ring true on any count except the depictions of the 70's scenario.

The premise of the filmi scenario and of course the junior artiste falling in love with the famous queen bee of then hindi filmdom is not exactly an expert ruse. It has been used and trashed in B grade films which I do not want to even name! Enter SRK in a junior artist avtaar and dream of DREAMY GIRL Shantipriya(Deepika Padukone). Then the magnificiently predictable scene of the damsel in fire situation and the junior artist to the rescue act, which didnt exactly go down as the most wittiest or the most beautifully shot scene. The whole sfx could be seen as the rendition of the film on screen showed us the fact that the scene was done in the chroma effect. So, the damsel in distress gets destressed by our junior artist antics and he likes and she likes each  other. He loses his heart, she only her time.He is in love she is not. She is married to the most prolific Producer of the industry then Mukesh(Arjun Rampal), and it is the industry's most well kept  secret after the address ofFORT KNOX! Hideous crime is committed when she discloses this as an ultimatum and our junior artist eavesdrops on the same. WOW, hows that for the mother of coincidences? **Definitely cliched and most definitely not innovative!

The fist half done, you move to today. We have the star of today OM Kapoor, in ahammed andhewed avtaar of an arrogant actor, who reports at least 4 to 6 hours late on the sets for shoot and is constantly surrounded by gang of giggly girls, who do not know the f of fashion from the color of the cloth that they wear! Enter the biggest Producer Mukesh K, who has now come back to Bollywood and calls himself MIKE as Hollywood calls him that!  Horror of horrors! I have yet to come across such a miracle. Shekhar Kapur who has come closest to this character should ideally start calling himself SHAKY as Hollywood would call him! Anyway, ourOK(TATA ka nahane ka bada sabun, remember the ad?/), ** meets him at a filmfare award after award party and decides to act in his film. Now at the Bollywood'OSCARS', OK gets the first message from the past of a speech prepared by the then junior artist after winning the filmfare Oscar! Then comes the Karz backdrop where coincidentally, OK shoots at the same old studio where the hideous crime has occurred and then the messages from the past begin. The mental trauma of the gruesome drama hits OK to the extent where obsession takes place and he agrees to act with Mukesh only if Mukesh revives the old script called OM SHANTI OM.

What happens later is a slightly variant tune of the climax Karz song and the screen errupts with another hashed climax.

The whole premise of this film is very flimsy, see thru and leaves the viewer (me particularly)yawning as it stretches into an **awesome 3 hour long drama of mashed potatoes, mince meat, kneaded and thumped into a story called OSO.

The plusses:SRK. He is amazingly charged. Its also because he got the chance to hem and haw. But he looks absolutely golden. The alcrity with which he changes his expressions and delivers dialogues is super. He is the only marketing and filmy trump card of this drag flick!

Deepika Padukone comes across as a refined ramp walker who has a little bit of coaching done in changing facial expressions and the big smile(the smile is her most positive feature), big eyes and a very graceful body. Her movement is very languid, filled with grace but she cant dance for nuts! Her dialogue delivery is also not that great! Overall an improved version of a model ramp walker!

Arjun Rampal as Mukesh is surprisingly full of energy and lot of voice control. He has tried very hard to act and does succeed upto an extent!

Cinematography by V Manikandan is good. Songs except for Aankhon Mein Teri, all the rest can be best forgotten. **Really a Dard - E - Disco!

Shreyas is a good actor, but is wasted. Kiron Kher is also another brilliant actor completely wasted. Rest of the cast is not to be bothered with as there is no one to talk about apart from these five characters. Surprisingly, I find too many common factors betweenSOS.oooppsss! OSO and Saawariya.

1. Likes, yikes - is the language reference of Rani Mukherjee

*2. Five main central characters;

OSO: SRK, Deepika, Arjun Rampal, Kiron Kher, Shreyas Talpade

SAAWARIYA: Ranbir, Sonam, Rani, Zohra Sehgal, Salman

  1. Shot only on sets

I would not recommend this film at all.
