It is beyond doubt that david ogilvy is one of the giants of advertising.
the problem is, this giant chooses to speak from his height, looking down at us mere mortals.
the body copy should be of 11 point size, the headline should be placed here…
his dictats rain down on us as divine commands.
should we then ignore him?
the point is, we can’t.
above everything else this scot is a brilliant writer.
who dazzles with every word, teaches with every sentence.
so what if his ideas are out-of-date today?
he still has a lot to teach us.
especially his attitude.
i wish all of us had the talent and the guts to tell the world, “this is the way it should be. if you disagree, you are an idiot.”
at the end of it all, everybody should read this book at least once.
because on every page, drips the personality of the author.
and David Ogilvy is a nice person to know.
