It’s the CES time guys . With the who’s who of the technology industry attending the event at Las Vegas. What all can you expect. A lot, this is the biggest consumer electronics show on the planet, with a host of tech giants promising to unveil their most interesting gadgets. I will be penning down most of the specifications of these till the 11th of January, so stay tuned.
Well!!! What a way to begin the show. Nvidia has just announced three things
The Nvidia Tegra 4 processor – Its a monster
The Nvidia grid – pushing gaming into the cloud
The biggest of the lot - the Nvidia Shield
I’ll be covering all the three together in the same review as all of them form one integral part in providing the ultimate gaming experience to the users.
Let’s begin with the Tegra 4 processor - Touted as the world’s fastest mobile processor. CEO Jen-Hsung Huang called it the big daddy of all the processors. And why not, it has 72 GPU cores, 4 A15 CPU cores and has the ability to work with 4G LTE making it almost 8 times faster than core i7 processor. In short Nvidia has taken the world by storm. In a comparison between 2 tablets, the Nexus 10 and an unnamed one which ran on the Tegra 4, the unnamed tablet ran 10 times faster than the Nexus 10 which is currently the most powerful tablet on the planet . The power consumption has improved by a huge amount and is way ahead of the predecessor the Tegra 3. And the bigger surprise is that its not just used to make games run faster, even the photography using the processor has improved ten folds. Nvidia was staring at a defeat at the hands of snapdragon last year. But now it looks like Nvidia may have an upper hand. No pricing and release date details as yet.
The Nvidia Grid – This can be called as an extension to the GeForce Grid which the makers call, ‘A revolutionary Cloud gaming architecture’. Consider this scenario, you are playing the game on the Shield (Nvidia’s proprietary gaming device ), you stop playing and now take your android mobile and start playing the same game on it from where you left off. Your gaming session is stored in the cloud. Awesome!!! Isn’t it? You can connect any android based device to this cloud, be it smart TV’s , phones , tablets or anything running android version 4.0 and above. And what more the Grid is also integrated with the Tegrazone which is Nvidia’s dedicated games gallery similar to the Google play. You can also access the playstore though. As for its processing power : It has 20 Grid server racks, 240 GPU’s running at 200 TFlops, which is as powerfull as 700 Xbox 360’s put together. That power was way beyond my imagination.
Now the biggest of the three, The Nvidia Shield – It is smaller than the Nintendo Wii U. It looks more like a portable version of the Xbox 360 With a 5 inch multi touch screen capable of playing 1080 p video. The Shield is equipped with a analog joysticks, buttons and other controllers which is supposed to make gaming experience much better. It also has an HDMI output port and full sized USB jack , and headphone jack and a Micro SD card slot. The device works in two modes – the shield mode and the androis stock mode. In the shield mode it is an exclusive gaming device that is connected to the Nvidia Grid and can play games that are available in the Tegrazone while In the Android stock mode you can use it as a tablet which runs the latest version of Android Jellybean. It has the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor built in, which makes it the fastest gaming console in today’s market. Miles ahead of the playstation’s, Wii U’s and the Xbox’s. And it is ultraportable and has a battery life of 10 hours. You can connect the device to any TV using the standard HDMI cable and can play on it as if being played on a 4k TV. That is 4k without actually having a 4k TV.As a demo they had run the assasins creed 3 on the device which wowed the spectators present at the conference. Overall this device is huge leap in the gaming industry.
Unfortunately the expected release date is Q3 2013 and no pricing details have been revealed yet.
I will update you’ll as and when I get enough details.
Till then Happy CES!!! I will be covering the entire event for you’ll. So stay tuned.
Thanks and Regards,
