I could never really decide on what to buy after I lost my Nokia E-71. I remember how much I harassed my friend, who owns a mobile shop, to guide me into buying a new phone. but any and every model that he would show me would not be catchy or would disinterest me in one way or the other.
Suddenly, my eyes fall on his 'used mobile phones' counter and look at this plain black handset lying amongst other phones. "Which one is that?", I ask him. "Oh! thats the Nokia X-6, still not officially available in India. Thats what a friend bought from UK and didnt like it so sold it to me."
With not too many hopes from the piece I took the piece in my hand and started surfing thru it for details. the handset was not in the best of conditions but was still looking good (black always looks good). it had a few scratches on the screen but that was on the scratch guard. then I started hunting down the phone for features and thats where it impressed me.
the touch of the phone is superb. one flick of my index finger and nearly 30 contacts scrolled down. even msging wasnt all that tough with that kind of a touch screen.
a 5mp camera with flash which really clicked amazing pictures. even the video recording was good if not the best of the lot.
it comes with no slot for a memory card. why would it need one... its with 16 gb inbuilt memory. other variation is an 8 gb one.
the best part for me was the price that I paid for it. since this was a used piece I got this bad boy for just 9000 bucks. thats almost the same price as buying a 5800. I must say that the interface of both the 5800 and the x 6 are the same, however, x6 wins by a bigger margin. the big screen really helps.
now, the reason why I am writing this review today is that this phone has been with me for almost an year now and I m completely impressed with it. in due course of time, I also bought a blackberry bold 2 but I somehow could not get rid of this nokia. I use 2 prepaids now just to keep the x6 running.
in this course of time I have realised that the phone also packs a powerful battery which runs 2 full days with me using it all the time. mind u, I have 500 free sms A DAY and I use all of them. ;-)
the phone has also fulfilled my need of a camera on certain ocassions. with 3g coming into the market I can now also make video calls cos the phone is 3g. I have loads of applications and themes installed on the phone which adds to the cosmetic look of the phone.
the phone has falled off my hands a million times, sometimes so hard that the back cover and the battery have been seperated upon impact to the ground; however when the battery is inserted again, the phone works as if nothing was wrong.
and for the price that one pays for this phone (i guess its around 12k for 8gb and 16k for 16gb) this phone is a steal. many of my friends are using this phone now and agree to what I have to say.
there is just one thing that worries me. I dont know which phone to buy to replace this phone anymore... so tomorrow if I have to buy another phone... I will go crazy. (and this comes from the mouth of a person who at one stage used to change his phone every 3-4 months)
