The features of a N72 are good but nothing to rave about. My biggest complaint is the poor battery life. With all the features I feel a more powerful battery could have been chosen and not a regular BLC-5 found on most low end models too.
My experience is that, if u have a more than 1000 people on your contacts list or if you have an additional memory card inserted then your battery would drain real fast, whether you use the phone or not. After reading all the reviews about N72 I have noticed that no one has mentioned about the battery life. It makes me wonder if I have a defective phone, a defective battery or just high expectations.
I even once took my N72 to the Nokia service center to rectify this complaint, but my complaint was just pooh poohed by the young, not-so-technical looking technicians at the service center. I was told that with all the features of an N72 especially with such a big screen, one should not really expect a battery life of more than a day. They re-initialized my software telling me it must be a software problem. Anyway I never noticed any change in battery life after this very technical operation.
However after lot of experimenting I found that by doing the following I could actually reduce the battery draining rate.
Limit contact list to less than 900
Do not insert memory card.
Set screen brightness to minimum.
Do not listen to songs/radio.
Use Bluetooth sparingly.
Use camera sparingly.
With all above sacrifices I am now able to get an average battery life of 2.5 days. It is either a compromise between good battery life and use of all features of a N72. Now I wonder why I need a phone with so many features if I have to be so conscious while using it. My old Nokia 3530 was sufficient. It used to give me a cool 4 to 5 days of standby battery life after one charge.
