WHY JUST TWO STARS?? WHILE I AM RANTING SO MUCH ABOUT THE PHONE?? read on
I bought mine about two years ago. Recently I experienced loss of display in the inner screen. I took my phone to a Nokia Care Center, the technician there inspected the phone and informed me that a ''UI Keyboard Module'' had developed a fault and needed to be replaced.
It would cost me about Rs.1800 to repair my phone, but they did not have the part in stock, and that it would be available in a week. I inquired a week later and still it was unavailable. This center, gave me Telephone numbers and addresses of THREE other Nokia Care Centers where I could inquire about the availability of the part. I called all the three but the part was unavailable. One of these centers gave me the Nokia Helpline number (30303838) and informed me that they would be able to help out.
I called the Helpline on Nov.29 2004, and I was given a FEW MORE Nokia Care Center tel. nos. and advised that if these Centers also did not have the part I should call back. I did just that, and the personnel at the Nokia Helpline told me that they would sort out the issue within 7 days. Hence I waited till Dec.7, 2004 and called them again.
To my surprise they had no record of my earlier complaints and was given telephone numbers of TWO more Nokia Care Centers. I called those two as well but the part was not available. Hence I called your Helpline again, and narrated the whole case again. This time the personnel emphatically promised that the matter would be taken up with utmost urgency and would call back within 48hrs.
On Dec.10, 2004 I called again but this time the Helpline Personnel simply washed his hands off the problem, saying that the part was not available and that he could not do anything about it. (I explained as I had done earlier as well) that 9210i was not a low−value phone that the availability of spare was not an important issue, and that any person buying an expensive phone like the 9210i would expect the spares to be available, if not immediately, at least within a short time period. This had no affect whatsoever on this personnel, he simply continued saying the same thing that the part was not available and that there was nothing he could do about it.
I requested him to connect me to any of his superiors, who he said were busy attending other customers and that I should call later. After two more phone calls I was able to speak to Mr. Srinavas Lou, Manager, Nokia Helpline. He called the Delhi Head office, and promised that in another week the part would be sent to Bombay and my phone would be repaired. Till date (Dec. 16 2004) there is absolutely NO RESPONSE from them.
SURPRISING??? One of my friends recommended ?local? Mobile Phone Repair shop. Initially I was hesitant to send my phone to him, but the same shop was recommended by quite a few people. I decided to give it a try. I sent my phone to him on a Saturday. He advised me to send it back on the following Wednesday by when he would arrange for the part. PRESTO the phone was back in my hands on the very next day, working like new.
I was thinking of ?exchanging? 9210i and upgrade to the new 9500, but now I am having second thoughts. Anyone here on MS can suggest any other brand that has all the features that a Communicator offers? Especially the ?FAX? and ?GROUP MESSAGING? features.
