I couldnt think of anything better to write about on my first review, so well its about my new mobile phone, my very own Nokia 7650(though I guess its a bit old, afterall it was released quite some time back)...
To tell the truth, I wasnt very interested in anything even vaguely related to mobile phone technology(and then, I was the extremely proud owner of the 2100!). I just needed a mobile phone to make and receive calls and for messaging purposes.
So when my brother bought this mobile for me, I was awe-struck( of course, it had a colour screen, which was somethin so amazing to me at tht time!). Well I guess I should start my experience of this 'dream-phone'...
'LOOK-AND-FEEL':
I feel that this phone looks quite neat when its closed up. In case one needs to type, there is a sliding keypad(though when the keypad is out, it looks more or less like a cordless phone). At first I was very uncomfortable with the keypad as the keys are quite flat. And I used to dislike sliding the keypad in and out. But now that I'm used to it, I feel that it imparts a sense of neatness to the phone. What I like best is the joystick.
It makes for easy controlling and navigation( and to play games like FIFA).The phone is quite bulky, and if you want a phone that can fit easily into your pockets, you better look elsewhere. But as I carry it in my small bag, its no problem...
FEATURES :
Pretty good features. The camera is quite good, and whats good is that when the phone is closed up, it covers the camera as well( I know many people who get really jittery when a camera phone is even pointed towards them!). The picture quality is OK, but sometimes it might not be very clear when transferred to a PC. You can download a Video recorder also (from the Nokia site), which is really nice if u want to capture 10 seconds or so of any memorable event!
This phone possesses Bluetooth and Infrared which are very useful in tranferring information from the phone to the computer and vice versa, and from phone to phone. Infrared, in particular, is very useful in transferring data to your PC so that you can save space on the mobile.
Coming to the basic features. Messaging is neat. The layout is also good, and you can create separate folders for all your messages(like Forwards, etc...). Your sent messages also get saved in the 'Sent' folder. And you can view the status of the messages which you are sending at the moment in 'Outbox'(especially when you are forwarding 1 message to a number of people)You can save smileys as 'Templates' and all your unfinished typed messages to 'Drafts'.
Making and receiving calls is just like in any other phone. The phone book is good, and you can assign many numbers( as well as a specific ringtone and a thumbnail image) to a single person(like home, office nos., email add etc). And talking about ringtones, you can play many different type of music files on the phone, which sound really very nice!
OK, now lets come to the drawbacks of this phone
Battery life: Extremely bad! This phone needs to be charged everyday. Its really a headache! I get so furious when I wake up in the morning just to find my phone 'dead'! Dont be surprised if in the middle of a call your phone switches off( has happened to me many a time, sometimes I feel this phone has a mind of its own!)...
Memory space: only 4 MB! At first it really doesnt matter... But if your an avid mobile 'photographer' or a junkie for mobile applications, the mobile memory might be filled in a short span of time which can lead to weird probs. If only it had a memory card slot...
Bugs: Acts weird if the memory is full. Once it developed a bug in which I couldnt use messaging as I could type only numbers. And it caused a number of system errors... Took it to Nokia service centre, but inspite of their attempts to 'flash' it and upgrade the Symbian software and whatever, nothing happened. Finally, me and my bro (the geniuses:-) did some file deletions and crap, and got it back to normal...!
Miscellanous:
Design: No, you cant give your 7650 a new look...Doesnt have changeable covers.
Games: really dumb. Wish they had included some decent ones, though there are a variety you can download from the net.
CONCLUSION: Overall, Nokia 7650 is a really good phone. A must-buy for anyone who wants something more than JUST a phone....!
Do comment on my review... Cheers!
