My experience with NOKIA has been bad. On 30/01/05 we bought two NOKIA 6630 mobile phones. One was bought in the name of my daughter, Ms Mauravi Singh Sharma (Srl No 354350002370832) and the other for my son-in-law, Mr. Vaibhav Sharma (Srl No 354350002370329). The cost of each phone was Rs 25,153. (Rupees twenty five thousand one hundred and fifty three).

The second phone (Srl No 354350002370329) developed a fault within 4 months. Since it was within the guarantee period, the company changed it, and gave a new instrument on 24/05/05, bearing No 354350003025393. In less than a year, this instrument also stopped functioning, after it became wet. It was given to Nokia Care service centre in Gurgaon on 4 May 2006. After keeping it for about two weeks, the service centre returned it, without carrying out any repairs. We then took it to the Nokia Care service centre in Lajpat Nagar in New Delhi. They also kept it for about two weeks and returned it without repairs. On both occasions, the service centre charged Rs. 110.00 as testing and estimation charges.

In September 2006, my daughter’s phone (Srl No 354350002370832) also stopped functioning, for the same reason. We gave it to the Nokia Care service centre in Gurgaon on 8/9/2006, paying Rs. 110 as testing charges. They gave an estimate of Rs 3,200 as cost of repairs. The instrument was returned after almost a month on 6/10/2006, without being repaired.

We have spent more than Rs. 50,000 for the two cell phones and both have become faulty after just over a year. It rains in India, and you can't avoid a phone getting wet. Is it not strange that the company’s authorised service centres cannot repair the telephones, even on payment? I suspect that this is part of the company’s strategy to increase sales, since the customer has to buy a new instrument. NOKIA professes to be the market leader in the field, but I think they are resorting to an unfair trade practice in this manner. If they continue to take customers for ride in this manner, they will not go very far, at least in India.
