41 Reviews, 85% recommendation and now in the process of being phased out. so what do I write about Nokia 6600 ? I almost dropped the idea of writing a review on Nokia 6600. But I have been in love with this phone since the last 5 months when I bought it for Rs. 13,000/-, and hence this review.
So rather than telling you again what has already been told 41 times, let me try and tell you how I am trying to make the best use of this phone and a little about how I choose this phone.
When I was looking out for a new Cellphone, I was a confused man. With so many choices available, it was hard to make up your mind on what to look out for in a cellphone. For those of you who go through similar situation like me, here are a couple of websites which can help you make up your mind(besides Mouthshut of course)
http://www.phonescoop.com
http://www.esato.com
http://www.compareindia.com
Now, after all the research, the final choice was between N 6600 and SE K700. I almost bought the Sony Ericsson for its good look, but then changed my mind for N6600 for one single reason : SYMBIAN OS.
There are so many applications(and Games) available on Symbian OS, which can be downloaded and used on the phone. So if N6600 does not have MP3 ringtones out of the box, you can tweak it to play MP 3 ringtones. Same with MP3 player. To just name a few applications which are my current fav,
Agile Messenger for chatting through the Mobile (yahoo and hotmail), using GPRS.
World time(specially useful for people who have to co-ordinate with multiple countries in world)
Call Cheater ( useful if you want to avoid taking someone's call)
Money Manager (keeping track of your expenses)
MP3 Player (Ultra MP3)
Wireless Presenter Space Doubler
plus hundreds of more applications(there is also an application which can be used as mosquito repellant !!!). Following are some sites from where you can download these application
http://www.imserba.com
http://www.mobango.com
http://www.skinnyfatman.com
the last two have all kind of video's as well (yeah, those kind as well, including DPS).
Bluetooth & GPRS :
With my Bluetooth enabled Laptop, and GPRS from BPL (see my other review on that), my office and house have become a wireless network for me. Staying in touch with mails is a breeze with GPRS enabled Opera browser which comes free with N6600. POP3 mails are also accessible, but I don't use that extensively.
MP3 Ringtones & MP3 player :
MP3 player can be downloaded from any of the above 3 sites(Ultra MP3 is a good choice). You can also download Nokia Multimedia Coverter from Nokia Developer Forum site to convert MP3 files to amr files which can then be used as ringtones. Another utility is full screen caller which will display the picture on full screen instead of standard thumbnail.
Games :
Again hundreds of games available on these sites, some funny like Kamusutra(brick style game) to other some other racing games.
There are other things which will appeal to others like a very good camera, video recorder, MP3 ringtones etc.
Some drawbacks are also there like the slow software, phone reboots sometime etc. You can though improve the performance by reducing the log kept from default 7 days to 1 day. Also by pressing the menu button for 3 seconds, you will see the open applications. Close the unnecessary application to improve the speed.
To sum it up, Nokia 6600 is excellent phone which can be best used if you know how to(hopefully this review will help). Comments are welcome.
