Hi,folks another mobile review from me,this time its about the nokia 5510(the nokia entertainment centre :) as I call it).I brought this mobile the moment it came out cos I was always looking for a nokia mp3 phone. My friend brought it from germany for me which on conversion I ended up paying 12,500.Although its manufactured there,it was priced at 18,000 over here a few months later.I used the phone for 5 months and my review is based on these 5 months of usage.I had a red-color one.The pacakage included:
1 x Nokia 5510 handset (NPM-5)
1 x 950mAh Li-ion Battery (BLC-2)
1 x dual headset (HDD-2)
1 x USB cable (DKE-2)
1 x audio cable (ADE-2)
1 x adaptor cable (ADA-2)
1 x charger (ACP-7A)
1 x Nokia 5510 software CD
1 x Nokia 5510 user manual.
After saying all that ill give you folks a overview on this phone:
Although bursting with features the nokia 5510 is not as impressive as it seems.
Music player with 64MB memory
The 5510 comes with 64MB (megabytes) worth of memory built into the phone. Approximately two hours of near-CD quality can be uploaded to the phone for playback using the USB cable provided in the sales package. The USB interface is a much faster option when it comes to connectivity compared to a serial interface. In addition, the 5510 is able to act as an output device where it can play its music on other headphones and hi-fi systems. The supplied battery can provide the music player with up to ten hours worth of musical enjoyment.
Built-in FM radio
On top of just listening to a compilation of music, an FM radio option allows a user to tune into popular radio stations to catch up with the latest hits, news and other broadcasts. The supplied battery on the 5510 can support the FM radio for up to 13 hours on a full charge.
Ability to record FM radio broadcasts and external audio using music player’s memory
Another use of the music player’s 64MB internal memory is the ability to record FM radio broadcasts received by the phone’s FM radio function. Broadcasts recorded can be played back later at the user’s will by simply playing the specific track that was used for that recording. It can also record audio from an external device (for example, CD player).
New interface - with QWERTY keyboard for easier input
The 5510 boasts a completely new user interface - with the phone being turned 90 degrees horizontally and a full QWERTY keyboard replacing the 1-to-zero, star and hash keys frequently found on phones. Benefits from such an interface includes being able to make text inputs faster (for example, writing SMS messages).
WAP
On top of just being able to play music, the 5510 can also login to the Internet through its WAP browser. The full QWERTY keyboard makes the WAP experience easier by having all the keys on the keyboard at your fingertips.
Voice dialling
Up to eight phone book entries can be set to have your voice initiate the call. Voice recognition on the 5510 has been improved compared to previous 3300 models.
There are also all the basic nokia features in this phone besides these outstanding ones.Vibra alert, picture messaging,7 custom tone(received),calculator,Calendar / Reminder function, sms templates, screen savers(animated).
If you folks dont know the regular nokia features ill just explain you again :
Calendar: You can set appointments here.
Picture messaging:You can send pictures when you dont want to send words.Picture messaging is a trendy way of messaging.
OK now its time for the acid test
The Music quality:
The mp3 player on this phone is not impressive. What I mean is first of all its not loud enough, secondly there are 5 presets but when I changed them it didnt make much difference to the music. If you use to blasting in you ears you want like this mp3 player. The nokia mp3 playback quality I would say does not sound bad,but isnt as good as any mp3player.If your looking to buy this phone for the player you want like it.Good thing about this player is that you can listen to mp3 or radio and send sms at the same time without any skipping at all.
Fm radio:The quality is not soo good of the fm radio.Cos you cannot listen to radio if the phone is in you pocket the radio signal will not be clear.
Nokia software supplied with the phone:
This software is used for converting mp3 format to lse format and then that lse file is transfered to the phone. But overall the mp3 playback quality is just normal not at all impressive.
GAMES
Play Bumper, Space Impact, Snake II, Pairs II, and Bantumi while on the move
Equipped with an ergonomic keypad designed for a two-hand gaming experience.
Battery time:
BLC- 2 Li- Ion (2hr 30min - 4hr 30min)talktime
55hr - 260hr(stand by times
Up to 10hr(music player)
Up to 13hr (FM RADIO)
Conclusions:I recommend this phone to only people who want a nokia entertainment centre :) , if your looking for great mp3 playback that can blast you ears this is not what you will look for,but if you want just about decent mp3 playback with fm radio, and wap,and games, and calendar, and lots more dont look anywhere else. :).Also note this phone is little bulky hold it try it and then decide.
