NIKAAH FROM MY VIEW. Review on Nikaah

NIKAAH...The first thing that interest you is the title. What does it mean? ah marriage. Every girls dream right?? Then you see the beautiful Salma Agha...I had to see this film for myself.It is considered a classic and I had to see why. There are numerous music DVD's so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw one of my favorite songs CHERA CHUPA LIYA HAI came from this movies ''engagement party'' scene.

''PATENIK2' gave a wonderful review, but mine is more from the female non-muslim perspective.

Let's see, if you start in the very beginning ,the paintings and the ''voice overs'' speaking about all of the sacrifices a woman makes to have love. She is often betrayed by her father,mother,brothers, sisters,lovers,and friends. Who is she to trust? Who can she truly turn to.

NEELOFAR{Salma} is very beautiful. She wants to complete her studies and make something of herself but her Mother encourages her to use her beauty to capture the prize marriage. Her wealthy cousin WASEEM {Deepak} . Remember, WASEEM loves her beauty and her body. She is an object. And ladies, what price do we pay to be this ''object'' of a mans affection. Remember how NEELOFAR eyes her diamond bangles and her lavish honeymoon getaway.... What woman would not want to be in her shoes... and how many of us have made lunch/dinner plans with our husbands for them to totally forget about their commitments to us.

What about the bad influences that always ''surround'' a marriage. Nosy in-laws, intruding male friends. Terrible rumours.

What about the courage of NEELOFAR to demand respect! and how she accepted her divorce and the fall down in society. She seemed to adopt well to HAIDERS{Raj} more frugal life. HE seemed to feel inadequate being unable to afford luxuries for NEELOFAR. This time she also looked lovingly at her golden bangles.With as much satisfaction as the first pair.

The most difficult part of a relation in ruins is when an old love promises to change-but you refuse to go back down that road. Such courage NEELOFAR showed. The devious attempts old lovers use to win us back also. She did not sucuumb!

And at the end of the film when she exclaimed to the effect '' I will not be passed back and forth according to YOUR desires. She has a mind of her own!!

This movie reminds me, as a woman ,to carry myself with dignity no matter what my destiny is. To have courage.

The actors in this film Salma Agha-Deepak Parashar were so handsome!! I can't find anymore of his movies....Salmas debut was great but she never became the star people thought she could be. I have never seen eyes like hers except on NIGAR SALTAN {?}of MUGHAAL E AZAM fame. Deepak, the way he looks at Salma, I wish a man would eye me so....

I did not like Raj Babaar in this film. I felt he was just sailing through. Maybe he was going through a lot in his personal life. He just wasn't into this film. B.R. Chopra films can really dig deep.

The actor that plays the bad college friend is a wonderful actor! He always plays the ''best buddy'' roles in films with Amitabh ,Rajesh Khanna, and Jeetendra. I just can't remember his name! He was the poisonous friends; that we all have, that try to take away our happiness . We can never protect ourselves from people like that. NIKAAH shows it is not one person or thing that can ruin a marriage.It's a little bit of everything.
