Newsweek, the US-based publication is undeniably a very popular magazine, which is widely read around the world. This current affairs publication is especially strong on news and information about the United States but,in my view, has poorer coverage of other areas of the world.

Its strengths lie in the fact that it is up to date, has a very large network of correspondents, and the standard of writing is quite good. It also covers entertainment, science and technology in considerable depth. celebrities are also focussed upon although not in a sensational manner.

Its weaknesses,in my opinion, is its poor coverage of places other than the USA,its very pro-american stance and sometimes I question its objectivity. Its investigative reporting on West Asia, for example, tends to be rather one sided and it has poor coverage of Africa and Latin America. even its coverage of European affairs although better than that of Africa or Latin America,is not that impressive.

Compared to the British weekly the Economist or some Indian publications ,its coverage, erudition and punchiness, compares somewhat unfavourably. Newsweek does not challenge the reader enough and,as previously mentioned,is not that objective,on many issues

Thanks for reading !
