At long last, Bollywood has come of age with New York. The movie is a welcome departure from the run of the mill formula of the cliched films churned out from Yash Raj productions every year. New York is a new age movie. Neil, John and Kat are college buddies in the New York State University.

Of the trio Only Neil are has come from India, the other two being resident citizens. All was going well till the 9/11 tragedy struck. Neil left New York as he sensed, through a couple of events, that Kat was deeply in love with John. In the meantime John was arrested by FBI on false charges of participation in the twin towers attacks. He was tormented and tortured in the prison cells and was severely humiliated. Later on he was released but he was totally devastated from inside.

The plot of the story revolves around his joining of a small terror group, Neil being forced by FBI to spy on John and Katrina and how a family is totally destroyed post 9/11. The music of the film is decent with a couple of real good tracks like Hai Junoon. Performance wise John is simply brilliant, Katrina has evolved as an actor, Neil plays his part with ease and comfort and Irfan Khan as the FBI officer looks convincing and keeps you engaged. This is probably the first big hit for Bollywood in the 2nd quarter and rightly so.
