I vaguely remember watching Namak Halal the first time, years ago but after that I have seen this movie numerous times and boy it never gets old. Everytime I see it, I manage to pull a moment from the movie that I missed previously. Namak Halal is one of the best entertainers from the camp of Amitabh Bachchan/Prakash Mehra.

Amitabh Bachchan is his usual genius with an impeccable timing of comedy that remains unparalled. Be his Elaborate demonstration of the English language or his ''so-called'' tiff with his ''Daddu'' played by the Prakash Mehra favorite Om Prakash followed by the ''Chori To Nahi Kee Hai'', it was worth watching it everytime.

Shashi Kapoor provided ample support and looks really thin considering this was in the mid 80s. Smita Patil was paired with Amitabh and Parveen Babi (One of her last movies) was paired with Shashi. The songs by Bappi Lahiri were really upto the par especially Asha Bhonsle's rendition of ''Raat Baaki'' and ''Jawani Jaaneman'' which even today are a favorite at any disco.

Prakash Mehra is pretty much responsible for giving Amitabh Bachchan to Hindi film industry with Zanjeer and went on to make breezy entertainers with him down the lane but this one is sure to be in the top 5. If you want to a fun Amitabh movie that'll have you in splits, this is it.
