Food for thought

It’s said that a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach .However with the kind of foods that I am about to list here you would be well advised to take the above maxim with a pinch of salt . Well, to be honest , I like most foods and am not a picky eater . But there are some things that you would never get down my throat .I really don’t have ten foods I dislike so , my list is a little short. Also , I am not a reviewer for a food magazine , so my descriptions might be a little rough .

1.Turnip

Well, not every kind of turnip dish. I just dislike them cooked . Especially in some Kashmiri dishes; they become really bitter and almost cause a gag reflex . Maybe it’s just me . My parents don’t seem to find anything wrong . Well, to each his own .

2.Kashmiri-style fish .

I have absolutely no idea why , but in Kashmir any fish dish is served absolutely COLD( after being cooked properly). Somehow , it tastes raw . So whenever we have fish in Kashmir , I have to either get mine heated separately or be content with it cold. I tried asking people why we have to eat it cold , but the reply I get is basically: “ Just because!”.

3.Wild Chicken

In Kashmir , wild hens are considered a “delicacy” . Obviously , this is definition of the word I am not familiar with . By the looks of the chicken , it looks normal enough. But take one bite and you’ll wonder whether you’re eating chicken or a bata chappal .The flesh could make an excellent substitute for vulcanized rubber.

4.Squid

I ate this particular animal quite by mistake. I was at a party once, and it was mixed in with the noodles. I didn’t notice the tiny squids ( around an inch long) until I bit into a forkful of noodles and felt a sickening squish inside my mouth . Needless to say , it felt and tasted somewhat like chicken-flavored jelly. Uugh….

5.I cant remember the name

I tasted this candy in Saudi Arabia . The look like tiny rocks , but are really soft . The feel like chewing gums . So far so good . But the problem is … they are TASTELESS! I really mean it . You put them in your mouth and chew , but don’t taste anything. Perhaps they’re meant for exercising your jaw muscles .

Well, I know that was a bit short , but as I said before, there aren’t many foods that I don’t like . Hoped you liked the review . Bon appetite !
