Hmm.the trend has taken me over. I thought of trying out a review on my 5/10/20 favourites. Though it took some time.but I finally settled on'web sites'!
Before I begin the countdown .I would like to mention that I read a few reviews on the same topic. Most of them have written very good reviews beginning from the criteria based on which their selection of favorite web sites was made. I have no particular basis…but yes, things like ease of navigation, utility, content of the site, services offered etc. certainly matter and I regard them as'obvious' in my general choice of web sites. So, here we go.
1) My Mail: http://www.yahoo.com: The very first site I ever saw when I stepped-in to the world wide web. Its been about 3 years now and still visit it every single day. I'm sure there won't be a single soul reading this who hasn't seen yahoo.com. It is an'all-in-one site' …a complete site in true sense. It includes yahoo mail, chat, messenger, search, greetings, yahoo groups, news, events, job search, games and loads of other information. It also offers region-specific sites. Basically, I use it for its E-mail service.the best I could find on net!
2) My Search: http://www.google.com:The ultimate place which I cling on to …when I feel lost in this huge dense web. It has never let me down:-) The search is divided into 4 categories. i.e. Web(as in general sites), Images(pictures), Groups(discussion forums on various topics) and Directory(information neatly packed in sub-divided categories).
3) E-Greetings: http://www.hallmark.com: Though this site is basically an e-shopping spree.I visit it only for sending e-greetings. I just love them(sending and receiving). Check out this site for some cool animated greetings and greetings in Flash. It may not have a huge collection of greetings….but certainly, good ones. My favourite is the Friendship category.
4) Music: https://letspops.com:A nice place when you just want to relax …listening to your favourite music online. Most of your favourite artists and songs would be listed here. The only flip is you cannot download the songs from this site. You also need a stable net connection to prevent sound buffering.
5) My Poetry: https://poetry.com:For the lovers of poetry and for the budding poets …this is the site you must see. Lakhs of poems …the topics? You name it, and they have it! If you wish to submit some lines of your own …the registration is pretty simple and there are contests running throughout the year. Selected poems also get published in their compiled book. The best part is….you will find a few MS -isans there! .including~Jaya, Nandakumar and me!:)~ You can search on the basis of First/last name. The poems can also be sent as an e-card.
6) E-Shopping: https://rediff.com: This is the only site where I have ever tried shopping. Perhaps, best for Indians…with the kind of things on sale there, the terms, delivery, offers etc. And, with categories like Books, Electronics, Accessories, Music, Jewellery, …etc. it covers a wide range. Check out some special offers here!
7) News: https://cnn.com: The official web site of the news channel CNN keeps up to its image. It is available in 2 basic editions i.e. Europe and Asia. But, the news does not confine itself to the 2 continents.it covers the world at large; whether it is sports, business, technology or politics. The best part is that they have a number of audio/video clips updated regularly with latest news. So, incase you miss the hot news clips on TV .you can check it here.
8) Women: http://www.footforward.com: If you are a women, you will find a lot to learn from here. The three basic divisions: You, Your Family and Your Home.is further sub-divided into various categories. This site is now taken over by the women channel of rediff.com. It works in conjunction with other related sites and provides links where required.
9) Health: https://webmd.com: This site is a complete health directory. It is packed with lots of information about health, diseases and medicines. You have an option to personalise WebMD and maintain 'MyHealthRecord'. In their words; WebMD helps you to manage the most important thing you have- your health. For further information on this site I recommeded a review on the same by Achougoo.
10) My Home: https://mouthshut.com: The only site I have ever got addicted to. Do I really need to elaborate on this one?:-) For those who say'yes' …please check my previous review;-) And anyway, it helps me to decide about other web sites too!
Phew! My first attempt at a count down.Comments will be appreciated and will help me to decide if I should undertake such projects in future;-)
Thanks for reading!
