Munnar
Munnar literally means 3 streams / 3 Rivers. This place is located at the convergence of 3 streams and that’s why the name (Don’t know the names of the streams). It is located about 1.5 – 1.8 kms above the sea level.
How to Reach There
Munnar is about 4-5 hrs drive from Madurai or Coimbatore. I observed something unique when I traveled to Munnar and in the return path also. There is a checkpoint at the Kerala Tamilnadu border (I was coming from Madurai) in the middle of the mountain. The second I crossed Tamilnadu border and entered kerala, the whole ambience changed, things where much much greener, the weather was much much cooler and everything was extremely pleasing. Well, I thought maybe that was an illusion, but my return trip 3 days later confirmed my same impressions. Anyway, I am keeping this on hold and let u know later when I visit this place again (You bet I would).
Accomodation & Food
Accomodation is absolutely not a problem in this place. You can find accommodation in all budgets. We stayed in Club Mahindra Lake View Resort. It is one of a high end budget. A very decent accommodation would cost u somewhere between 1000 – 2000 for a standard double bed room.
Check in Time usually is around 3-5 PM
Check Out time usually is 12 Noon.

Club Mahindra

I am not going more into this. You can get the info from any website.
Tourist Attractions
There are lots of tourist attractions in and around Munnar which can keep you hooked on to the place for more than a week. But it is the real charm of Munnar which will not let you leave the place. The prime attraction of Munnar are the tea planations. You see them everywhere, to your right, left, front, back, top and everywhere. The beautifully landscaped tea estates are a treat to watch. You can keep staring at them for hours without being tired.
Kolukkumalai
This is a tea estate to which only very few people have access. You can access this place only by Jeeps. The drive (or should I say ride) to the top is in itself an adventure. When we had been there, there was this phenomenal breeze, which you can see on my profile page, I had to literally hold on to a rock (Not that I will be blown off, Just a secure feeling u see). Oh well what is the attraction. Fantastic views, literally mind blowing breeze and sprawling tea plantations.
Mattupatty
This place is famous for its dairy farm. Very close to the farm, there is a Dam and a lake. Speed boating and slow boating are available on hire.
Echo Point
Well no explanation required. If u happen to drive by in that area during peak season, you can hear the echo of your driving..!!
There are lots and lots of places to see, which I am not going to elaborate because I did not go there. My idea was never to see all the places, but to take my own time and relish the few places I see.
Few more places you can visit.
Devikulam, Lock Heart Gap,Eravikulam Park,Nyayamakad Waterfall, pallivasal etc etc etc
I happened to go to a lake, which I regret do not remember the name. Boy I was fooled whether that was a lake or an Ice Hockey skating stadium. I have never seen such a still lake. I spent one hour just staring and walking along the meandering curves. There was this lovely green colured bench which was in total contrast to the surroundings. It was heaven
By far the best attraction, I have seen there is my Cell phone did not work.
Conclusion
Have lots to say, but to cut it short. It is a place worth visiting atleast a million times. You will never be tired of being amazed of the charm , beauty and the tranquility that this place has to offer. My advice, go there to relax if it is a short visit of 2 days. If you want to see all the places and tourist spots, try staying for atleast one week.
