Miles and miles of unending expanse of tea plantations are there to welcome you as you reach the Southern Kashmir of India (Munnar) situated in the heart of God’s very own Country (Kerala). Its breathtaking beauty is a heaven for peace and tranquility; thus making it an idyllic destination for tourists. Munnar is placed at an altitude of about 6000 ft. above sea level in the district of Idukki. This was one of the favoured places of the British rulers during the colonial days. One of the best features of this place is that it rains at about any time irrespective of the season, leaving the place misty , cool and evermore beautiful. So the tourists should come geared with warm clothes / rain wear. Munnar is also known for its exotic species of flora and fauna which can be seen in the Eravikulam National Park or Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. Different varieties of spices including cardamom, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg are cultivated in Munnar and its neighboring villages. Aroma of spice filled in the cool air, lush green tea plantations on the either sides of the roads and women folk singing and picking tea leaves on the hills gives and awesome feeling of bliss. One can actually try out trekking, boating, nature trails and horde of other activities and can patronize the mind-blowing kerala cuisine of appams and istus and try a variety of other multi-cuisine restaurants. Despite its wonder and beauty, Munnar has still maintained its pristine beauty amidst the hordes of visitors pouring in year after year. We stayed in about two hotels but to our surprise there was no provision of fans in any of the rooms...Actually one doesnt need it... the weather is too good.
