It was Christmas, I was already filled with joy – with all the gifts I got (Camera Phone, Victoria Secret Halo, etc…) This movie just added more joy!
I think this is the BEST COMIC MOVIE OF THE YEAR 2003.
This movie makes you cry a little & laugh a lot.
Movie basically revolves around Munna Bhai, who came to Mumbai, with no dreams no nothing but his babuji dreamt of his son becoming a doctor. So when Babujifinds out that his son is actually a “bhai”. He is shocked and disappointed. Munna feels very sad and decides that he will become a doctor. Munna always wants to become a doc to woo his childhood friend, Chinki, but there is a villain, Chinki & Dean of the College, Dr. Asthana. Munna believes that love can heal. Just a magical “jappi” (hug) can make a person happy and forget about their sorrows.
Movie shows a variety of patients and how Munna Bhai without any knowledge -- heals. Munna also proves that Laughter is the best treatment for anything.
--------------------
First half of the movie is pretty fast paced with a lot of mumbaiya ‘bhai’ humor to an emotional father-son relationship, entering college, ragging, “questions” by Munna in classes.
Although, Second half is slow paced, mainly cause of all the unnecessary songs, but second half has all the goodies too – with Jimmy Shergill coming in as a patient, Game of Carrom with “Papu”, Sanjay Dutt & Arshad Warsi’s drinking breaks. (I wish I could list all the scenes that I liked but then realized that I liked almost all the scenes)
Performances by all is very good. Each side actor offers a good laugh and even sensitive performances.
Sunil Dutt has only 2 or 3 scenes but he is still great! Its like magic to see the father son duo together for the first time. Scenes that were shared by both looked as if they were from “real life” rather than “reel Life”
Rohini(mother) has very little to do in the movie but she is ok.
Gracy Singh seems to be having a hang over from “Armaan” – she still plays a doc in this one. I personally this she is pretty normal looking actress and could do a lot better with some good offers. She is Alright!
Jimmy Shergill still proves that he is a good actor, he just needs the right movies. He is a {Plus} in the second half.
Boman Irani is mean, and hilarious both at the same time. I don’t really remember seeing him anywhere else, but he is good and can’t wait to see more of him.
Now the two people who just steal the show are :::
Arshad Warsi, he is the best! I liked him before but he never got any good offer. He was terrific in the role of a “Bhai”. I hope to see more of him..in the years to come.
Sanjay Dutt, all I can say about him is “FUNNY”. He already proved that he is not just a “action” hero; after proving himself as a comic actor in Jodi No.1 & Ek aur Ek Gyarah.
With the best performances, movie also has the best screenplay, cinematography, dialogues, & direction. Debutant director Irani, is good….I am sure he has a good future in Bollywood. Vidhu Chopra, being a very very lazy director, is a good producer.
As you can see that this movie is full of PROs but then all movies are not perfect and this movie being an example, this movie has way tooo many songs, which makes the pace of the movie slow. Everybody in the theatre actually moaned when we all knew that there is song coming up… ugh!
Music is Ok – only two songs that come to mind right now – Subah Hogayi Mamu & Chaan Chaan.
Overall, MunaaBhai MBBS is a must for all! It’s the best comedy of 2003. Movie is funny and also have good sensitive scenes. I m sure at the Box Office will do pretty good business and might win some awards too. (comic nominations).
Trust me, while you drive back from the theatre, you’ll keep on talking about it – repeating all the funny dialogues and just laughing!!! Just feeling good too and telling yourself – that ‘Yes! This was definitely worth that some Rupees/dollars & time spent at the theatre.’
GO WATCH THIS MOVIE NOW!
:Who knows, This movie might just cure you from feeling down:
