Synopsis:
Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is a story of a ''Good-at-heart-Gunda'' played by Sanjay Dutt. He, along with Circuit (Arshad Warsi) & the rest of his gang are into settling financial-disputes by dadagiri; which they call ''Social Service''. Munna's father Hari Prasad Sharma (Sunil Dutt) is under the sweet-illusion that his son is a big doctor in Mumbai. Little does he know that his son is an affable and a popular Bhai. During one of his visits to the city, he ends up meeting an old friend Dr. Asthana (Boman Irani) who has a daughter called Chinky a.k.a. Dr. Suman (Gracy Singh). The friends decide to become 'in-laws'.
It doesn't take long for Dr. Asthana to find out Munna's reality and all hell breaks lose when Hari Prasad Sharma is made to face his son's reality! He goes back to the village with Munna's mother with tears in his eyes. Now, our Munna Bhai decides to prove a point to everybody. He decides to become a doctor & manages to get into the city's most renowned medical college with the help of his gunda-tactics.
Co-incidentally, Munna's enemy Dr. Asthana is the dean of the same college. There are hilarious moments as Munna tries his hand at the skilful profession and faints. The movie is all laughs and fun from the first reel till the last with some beautiful messages like 'love' is the cure for all diseases.
Performances:
Sanjay Dutt as Munna Bhai was the perfect choice. The actor is strong and vulnerable at the same time. His character has sensitivity as well as machismo and intensity. Sanjay Dutt manages to convey messages with a touch of humour and 'humour', they say, is one of the most effective ways of conveying a message.
Boman Irani as Dr. Asthana has proved that he can get into the skin of any character that he plays. He debuted with a film called ''Let's Talk'' and was appreciated for his talent in ''Darna Mana Hai'' as well. He is an actor to look out for in the forthcoming movies in Bollywood.
Arshad Warsi as Circuit plays the right hand of Munna Bhai. He has an excellent comic-timing and acts naturally. The role of a goon-cum-Munna's best friend-cum-guide has been played effortlessly by Warsi.
Sunil Dutt as Hari Prasad Sharma returned to the silver screen after a long gap of 17 years and played the role of Sanju's father in this film. He did justice to the role of a principled, upright and a righteous man who is heartbroken when he learns that his son is not a doctor but a tapori in Mumbai.
Others like Gracy Singh, Jimmy Shergill are good in their respective roles as well. Gracy plays her character of Dr. Suman (Asthana's daughter) with grace and dignity. Jimmy Shergill plays a dying man (Zaheer) who shoulders a massive burden of responsibilities and who seeks the help of Munna Bhai in his last stage.
Editor turned director Rajkumar Hirani has clearly done a very good job. It will not be a surprise if Munna Bhai M.B.B.S wins an award in the Best Film or Best Story category in the reputed awards functions. Anu Malik has done a good job at creating melodious and hum able music once again, the songs are climbing up at the musical charts.
Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. is an absolute paisa-vasool and a great film to add to your personal favourite's collection at home.
