THE GANGSTERS OF THE 90’S….

Sanjay Gupta the eminent director, more famous for his Bhai Series(Shootout at Lokhandwala, Shootout at Wadwala), other than his friend Sanjay Dutt starrer Kaante, Aatish and Zinda, has again canned another Bhai Story in the 90’s saga, starring yet another of his friend The Mighty John Abraham.

This time he has chosen the 90’s Gangster of Mumbai …framing it as Amartya Rao aka John Abraham.

The story is based on true events and revolves around mainly 2 characters- Gangster Amartya Rao and Senior Inspector Vijay Sawarkar played by Emraan Hashmi.

The story heads back to the 90’s Mumbai or Bombay as said that time, where the extortion was at the peak level and Gangleaders were on marking their territories of Amchi Mumbai.

Mumbai that time was under their strongman Balasaheb Thackrey who was guiding the Mumbai clan to get back their Mother back -Mumbai Majhi Aayee!

On the other end one vegetable vendor protests of not giving The Hafta to the Gaitonde goons and chop of Gaitonde’s(played by Amol Gupte) right hand man’s fist.

Then story moves in the same way like other Gangster stories ply…entering the impregnable forest of Crime where there is no turning back.

From the lock up, meeting his alliance Nari Khan(Gulshan Grover) the rise of Amrtya Rao starts, making his deeds conspicuous to Bhau(Majesh Manjrekar) and making himself the right hand man of Bhau and rule Mumbai.

Amidst sending his brother Ashwin Naik(Prateek Babbar) out side to study and getting married to Seema(Kajal Agarwal) or killing Sunil Khaitan to tighten his iron fists on Mumbai. He did everything with his 3 friends Baba(Rohit roy), Sadashiv(Vivaan parashar) and Jagannath( Shaad Randhawa).

But matters take an unprecedented turn when he kills the industrialist Sunil Khaitan and her widow challenges the Police and declares the prize money 100 million to the policeman who kills Amartya.

Inspector Vijal Sawarkar( in real Vijay Salaskar) the staunch devotee of the law starts to eliminate each of the allies of Amartya and even manages to get back Amartya from abroad.

Amartya was nonplussed when he came to know that all the actions taken by Vijay was instructed by his Godfather Bhau, who wants to kill him with subterfuge.

He decides to leave Mumbai with his ailing brother with the help of Nari Khan but dilapidate against Vijay and dies .

In this moment there is a catch, for that the movie needed to get watched for once.

As per acting, John Abraham is all brwans with same still facial expressions, Emraan Hashmi manages the role he has been given but not worthy, Mahesh Manjrekar and Amol Gupte treats their role to the ultimate.

There are few moments specially the Taxi sequence …where the hunter meets his pray .still the pray gets away is one of the highlights and the hospital rage scenario.where Amartya comes in to take out his injured brother from the hospital.

As it’s an action drama, heroine hasn’t got enough limelight as anticipated.

Music isn’t been euphonious.

The length of the movie is ok, cinematography is also been ok, action shots has been framed perfectly.

All in all, the film can be watched as a pastime for once.
