How should a 32-year-old man lose his virginity? Debashish Chatterjee (Rahul Bose) still does not have an answer to that million-dollar question. He gets in touch with Baba Hindustani (Vijay Raaz) a charlatan in the garb of a tantric. There he also happens to meet a failed Punjabi film producer (Saurabh Shukla). Debu’s best pal and colleague (Kaabir) one day shoots photographs of Debu exercising. The Punjabi producer smartly morphs them in his porn film. Thus the 32 year old virgin Debu is not virgin anymore even though he is one in real life. Poor Debu is forced to give up his job because he has “played” the lead in a pornographic film. The only one to give him a sympathetic love is journalist friend Sonali (Perizaad Zorabian). How Debu lands up losing his cherry not out of lust but out of love forms the climax of the film.
One is glad to see that Bollywood his finally coming of age. Sex is not only openly discussed but also explicitly shown in this film. Anant Balani has done an excellent job as a writer and a director. The film script has the right doses of satire in it. What is commendable here is the originality of his material. And peppered with the right cast the film draws enough chuckles and laughter and will surely be appreciated by the SMS crowd. There is a flip side too. You cannot watch the film with your entire family unless you want to squirm in your seat. Also some situations in the film are over the top.
Amongst the cast mind you it is not only Rahul Bose who comes out winners but the supporting cast too play their minds excellently. Perizad Zorbian lights up the screen with her infectious smile and performance. Here is an actress is going to go a long way. In all Mumbai Matinee is a film worth watching.
