Once a while a film comes out where you wonder what the heck the director was thinking. It happens often in David Dhawan's films. I make no big assumptions about my intelligence. But in this case it makes you wonder why they waste so much money on crud.

Cast

Salman Khan

Akshay Kumar

Priyanka Chopra

Amrish Puri

Rajpal yadav

Amrita Arora

Supriya Karnik

and the Kaanta laga girl.

Director

David Dhawan

Plot

The jilted hero, Salman Khan, has a problem with his temper(cue for later plot developments).

He goes to Goa after leaving his family in Bombay. He works in a desi Baywatch type joint as a manager and

knocks around security guard Satish Shah. He falls in love with Priyanka Chopra who's an aspiring ''fashion'' designer who only works with bikini models !!

She also happens to be his neighbor giving the neighborhood free shows...

While searching for an apt. Salman runs into 2 Rajpal Yadavs. One the astrologer, an Asrani type loudmouth becomes his friend and the other a SRK Josh type gangleader becomes his enemy.

His actions trying to woo Priyanka leads to injuries for her father Amrish Puri.

Salman's new room-mate Akshay as Sunny is the exact opposite. He has no talent other than lying and making people believe his intentions. After viewing Priyanka, he falls for her too. This leads to multiple incidents between the two and a long drawn-out climax.

My Take

There was a review by Taran Adarsh(film critic and reviewer) who claims this film is ''pure, unadulterated entertainment''. By those Standards Main Hoon Na is a classic like ''Mother India'' when compared to MNH.

This film had some good potential, an okay plot, lots of sequences ripped off Hollywood films, average soundtrack.

But the cast bombs badly. With poorly written dialogues, everyone seems to shout. Salman Khan hams badly. He was terrific in ''Tere Naam'' but here he overacts. Akshay though despite taking second billing, shines and steals every scene he is in. As the lone bright spot he carries the film though Salman does not bounce off the camaraderie.

The same kind of situations so hilarious in Andaz Apna Apna is dull because of crappy dialogues and overuse of slapstick in the screenplay. The jarring background music does'nt help though. Priyanka Chopra looks good, stunning in some of the songs but cant act to save her life.

The supporting cast is good in points, Kader Khan with mysterious ailments is good as is Amrish Puri as the harassed dad. Supriya Karnik as Puri's wife is used in a similar role as cause for romantic confusion like the sequences in Hungama. Rajpal Yadav breaks decibel records in his feeble attempts at humor. The Matrix Reloaded Burly-brawl sequence is innovative though. But all this could've been redeemed had the main hero ie Salman Khan given a half decent performance. Though for some unintentional comedy watch Salman's hairstyle change between scenes.

All this nonsense, makes one wish for Aamir Khan or Ajay Devgan in comedy films. Then again a lot blame/credit goes to David Dhawan, the maker of some of the worst films in recent history, DD kind of reinvents himself into the new comedy genre with MTV styled videos, Chopra/Johar kind of sets and characters, copied Hollywood scenes etc. But the raw, edgy comedy he got with Anil Kapoor and Govinda in ''Deewana Mastana'' is lacking here.

BTW.. the Kaanta Laga girl looks good, hope to see her in bigger roles in upcoming films :) !!

Final Words

Too many people have said, these kind of films should be watched leaving the dimaag at home. Why is this the case for every recent Hindi comedy? People deserve better film-making. Of course this would be one of those films where you can watch with friends making jokes at the film not with.
