MTV, Music Television was one of the first channels to come to India via Satellite Television and the cable-wallah, it had in those days everything to be a great channel, great,new music and sprightly VJs, who didnt overact. Nowadays, I can stand the VJs who are starting to irritate(not all of 'em are good), but not the music, its quantity and quality played today. the channel used to be almost 60% english and 40% hindi, which was fine, now It seems to be 70% Hindi and 30% English.Throughout the day, they play only filmi songs, half of which suck big time. Then they play the ubiquitous pop song, which is generally another rehash of a filmi song, with it being a bit faster, and the video beign different. I dont mind the lack of English songs too much, but the hindi songs that they play are bad sometimes(this may because of the lack of good hindi songs generally).
MTV also does not play English songs that much anymore, gone are the days when MTV Rewind with Danny McGill(remember him?) was a hit show. Now, MTV Rewind is played at night, at 11:00 PM or so.
Now, the VJs are good, but the music played is bad, in-case of rivals Channel [V], I have to say, the VJs suck but the music they play is better.
